Question What settings do you use for saving gallery layouts?

I've noticed the past two gallery uploads I've done are poor quality and I haven't changed the way that I save my upload files, so I'm wondering what settings everyone uses to save your gallery layouts? I usually use 300 dpi and save at 600 x 600 around 9 or 10 quality but that didn't seem to produce good results the past two times. Any advice so that they will be more crisp?

Are you using Save for Web? If not, there's a tutorial for saving your layouts here: https://www.sweetshoppedesigns.com/t.../save-for-web/

I haven't had to use Save for Web in years but I'm trying that now. I even tried reducing to 72dpi since web isn't any higher than that anyway but it still looked grainy. Going to try a new one now and see if it worked. Thanks!

If you've told it how many pixels the size is (600x600 or 700x700), the dpi isn't actually important. The web displays a pixel as a pixel. 600 pixels will be 600 pixels. It doesn't give two figs about inches. No matter what you set the dpi at, it's going to display 600 pixels the same way, and the pixels are going to take the same amount of space and have the same quality. dpi matters for printing, not for web.

I use Photoshop CS5.

Flatten layout.
Resize to 700x700px.
Run an Unsharp Mask (0.5 pixels, 500%)
Bump up the vibrance by 5 (under Image Adjustment)
Save for Web (Optimize size at 245KB)

I normally flatten the image, change the resolution to 72, size 700x700 and then put a high pass filter at .3 over it, set to overlay or soft light then flatten again and save for web at 250-245 ish.

Wow! These are all really good tips. I usually just save at 600x600, but will have to try some of these new techniques. Thanks for the great ideas!
