Today.. I almost burned my house down.
there was a bit of a cold chill in the kitchen so I turned on the oven for a few minutes just to take the edge off. It's quick and easy and is never a problem.
Except when you forget that you put your pizza stone set in there last night, including the giant wooden spatula thing.. which starts to burn because you put the broiler on and it's two inches below it. *facepalm* Better still.. I could smell it and thought my neighbor was being weird and had our fire pit going....... No lauren. You see how you can't see well and everything seems foggy? that's smoke dummy. your oven is burning.

OMG. LOL I'm SO glad everything turned out ok! Is your spatula still usable?
My ex-husband used to store leftover baked goods in the oven. If I made cookies or whatever, he'd inevitably put the plate of cookies in the oven before bed. I can't even TELL you the number of times I ruined perfectly good treats because I turned the oven on without checking it first. |

Oh my! I don't store anything in my oven for this exact reason. Every single time I would forget!! And I use my oven a lot!!

Oh no!! Good thing you found out in time...
When I was dating and to-be-hubby would be coming over, I used to hide dirty dishes in the oven... haha... Oh - and I learned a new "party trick" with our new gas stove... because of my big -uhm, tummy... I can turn on the burner with my tummy while reaching into the microwave above the stove. The first time I did it - the clicker from the igniting the gas warned me... the second time, the gas was turned on and I didn't even know... good thing natural gas has an smell...

Oh, no-I'm glad you no real harm was done. When I was growing up my mother often put drying pots, pans, and large plastic containers in the oven to get them off the counter. I can't tell you how many times she burned the containers because she didn't check first.

lol curling irons .. burners.. cookies.. oh my!
We have a really tiny kitchen and not a lot of space for my bigger cooking pans- so I usually store them in the oven (And in the drawer below) I do not know what I was thinking putting something wooden in there -.- The handle is pretty burned but the rest was under the pizza stone, so it may be ok. Still shaking my head at myself

Been there. When showing our first house I put a dirty cookie sheet and some kitchen scissors in the oven to hide them... Yup, the scissor handles melted to the cookie sheet next time I went to bake something.. Still have them as a reminder and almost 6 years later I still open the oven door before I tun it on...

Oh man....that is my worst fear!
I will be almost to work and will turn all the way around and go back home to make sure I've unplugged my iron or turned off the fireplace. Ugh! So glad nothing happened.

I'm the one who goes away for the day and ALWAYS think i left something on - either the stove or my straightening iron etc.. so I usually spend the day away worrying about the fact that I left something on to burn down my house..

This makes me think of the Sex and the City episode where SJP states she keeps sweaters in her oven.

I'm glad there was no serious damage! My husband has the opposite problem, he leaves the oven on after he removes whatever he's baking about 80% of the time.

So many melting issues from everyone. Once when I was like 20 for some reason I apparently forgot you can't put metal in the microwave and put in a metal lid with a plastic top. It started sparking and melted the plastic and ruined the microwave. What a mess.

Oh my gosh!!! So glad nothing horrible happened!
Thankfully the worst I've done was leave the oven on 350 overnight. It freaked DH out but I don't think it's THAT bad... at least nothing was in the oven. haha... |

O boy... I'm glad you didn't burn your house down!
I've done the straight iron, and leaving the stove on after I've taken out the cooked item! When I was in homeowner claims years ago, a little old lady had a small home "explosion." I had to interview her to get the facts. Apparently, she stored cleaning products in the drawer that you have under the stove! Really!?! Oh boy!

Oh yikes! I can't tell you the number of times that I have had stuff in the oven and turned it on, completely forgetting about whatever was in there. Oh, the things I've melted….. I now leave sticky notes on the oven in the event that I put ANYTHING in it.
Glad it didn't turn out worse… I, too, have been heating my kitchen with the oven, since my furnace is kaput and I can't afford to replace it right now. Thankfully, my house is easy to heat with those radiant box heaters. Not the best option, but it's all I've got at the moment. |

Oh how funny! I almost burned down our place 2x with the oven. Once I forgot I put takeout pizza boxes in the oven and went to turn it on .... it smoked up so much it auto-locked on me lol. Then I was making Salmon with the boiler and caught the fish on fire ... yeah idk lol.
