Default Hilton Head or Myrtle Beach

Okay, so DH & I were talking about going to either Hilton Head Island or Myrtle Beach for our anniversary this year. I've been to both, but I was a little girl & don't really remember either. So, if you've been to either, which would you recommend? & if you've only been to one, what did you love/not love about it?

I've been to both and Hilton Head island was my favorite by far. It's been about 12 years since I've been to either one since I have lived in the Netherlands for the past 10 years, but if we ever move back to the states Hilton Head is where I want to live. To me it was much cleaner and nicer than Myrtle Beach. Not to mention smaller and more quaint at the time.

Hilton Head. MB is so busy and commercialized. The beaches are super crowded and depending on when you're there, you risk running into spring break/senior week/bike week crowds. Hotels can be iffy. We'll never go to MB again, but that's just our preference. I know lots of people who love it because there is a lot to do. However, we just prefer quiet beaches and quaint towns...jmo!

Thanks girls! Yeah, I totally prefer quiet & less crowded! I lived in Panama City, FL & never went to Panama City Beach the whole time b/c there were too many people!
I also didn't realize how close Hilton Head is to Savannah!

I'd either do Hilton Head or Tybee Island(which is right off Savannah). We personally love Tybee, and even when its crowded its not bad. We love it.

Jennifer, I forgot about Tybee! We used to go there a lot when I was a kid!
Corey! Really? I lived in Hinesville for 4-5 years when I was little (1992-1997). Not military, though. My dad was on staff at Grace Baptist Church in Hinesville on Airport Rd. Small world! & yes, I LOVE Savannah! I could totally live there!! I miss being so close! Although I am only like 3 hours now, we never go! So, that would be a huge plus if we decide on Hilton Head, we'd be able to drive down to Savannah for an evening on River Street!

I'm from SC and have visited both many times. I by far prefer Hilton Head over Myrtle Beach for pretty much the same reasons everyone else has mentioned. HHI is beautiful, and you will love it there!

When are you going? My family and I are planning a trip in the next few months too.

Fun! Like I said, you're going to love it there. One word of advice about August. Watch out for jellyfish!! We were there at the beginning of last August, and the jellyfish were terrible! Everyone was getting stung. I think the lifeguard said it's their mating season or something.

If anyone is coming to the Savannah area and wants to meet up, just let me know we're only about 20 mins from river street and always up for an excuse to head there

Oh Kendall, really? That totally stinks! But, it's okay b/c we probably won't be in the water very much. We prefer the gorgeous view of the ocean, but the water of a swimming pool or hot tub! lol

Jennifer, I don't want to try to meet up this time b/c it's our anniversary, but we definitely have to do it soon! We're only 3 hours away. I'm hoping after we go in August, DH will fall in love w/Savannah as much as I am & want to go back...a lot! lol

We're about 2.5 hrs from Augusta, right near Savannah. I'm hoping to come up again in April, I need another Hobby Lobby trip and would love to do a meetup!

I grew up in SC and have been to both places. Myrtle Beach is very touristy - and sort of carnival like - not very upscale (though I'm sure parts of it are). I don't know how to explain it. Hilton Head imo is much more subdued and grownup. So I guess it depends on what you are looking for yk?

I'm the oddball and woulda picked Myrtle Beach Everytime I've been we've stayed on the South part of the beach and it's been sooo nice and quiet. Plus you miss all the traffic when you head to Broadway at the Beach and those attractions nearby.

I do love Hilton Head though..just a diff feeling I guess to it..depends if you want quiet and beach or booming with attractions.

Let me know when y'all plan this meetup for! I'm like 2 1/2 hours from Augusta too!
Oh! & DH works for AT&T & Augusta is part of his territory. Well, technically, it's only Augusta National!
Anyway. Heather, we're not big "carnival-ly" people! lol I am more so, but I couldn't see DH going somewhere like that. I can't even get him to take me to the fair here!

We love Myrtle and go almost every year....to North Myrtle and during the winter if possible Don't go down into Myrtle during spring break, bike week, senior week, etc... a nightmare. Stay North! Or maybe south, just not the middle
Please please please let me know if you guys do a meet up, would love to come.
