Default Scrap for Hire/Others

Did anyone ever scrap for someone else? I know a lot of kits now aren't licensed for "S4H" or "S4O" but I always wondered if anyone ever had a business scrapping for other people.

Sometimes I scrap pages as gifts, but never for sale.

I scrap for my family (including nephews and nieces), but they're gifts, not paid work. I'm not a fast enough scrapper to do it professionally. If I broke down each page by the hours it takes, no one would be able to afford me. Haha!

I wouldn't say I have a business, but I did have someone contact me from seeing my layouts on Facebook, and asked about me scrapping some of her vacations. I think I did 3 or 4 albums?

I am a fast scrapper, but I have to say it was difficult. Because they weren't my photos, and I really didn't have a "feel" for the vacation, that made it a little harder to pick the right embellishments. I was also worried that she wouldn't like what I had created. She always did, but I still worried. I did feel like I received fair compensation from my work.

Overall, I'm glad I haven't been approached again about it as I have so many photos left to scrap for my own memory keeping.

A few years ago I was paid to scrap a friends Disney trip. In the end I actually did her trip and her sister's trip.

She paid me a set price per amount of pages (like 5 pages = $10 or something like that). She sent me money via paypal and I used the money to purchase more scrapbooking supplies. I used a lot of kits I already owned, but also purchased a few new ones to fit her needs.

I actually turned some of the pages I scrapbooked for her, into Quick pages for myself to use on my future trips. I really enjoyed doing it, and would do it again in a hearbeat!

I did a friend's album for her nephew gosh like 10 or more years ago. Sadly she passed away shortly after and I often wonder if her nephew still has it

I offered a scrapbook page as a prize in a charity raffle for the Hedgehog Welfare Society. I remember the winner being so excited by what I made her but I don't remember what I actually did. Probably photos of her hedgehog(s?)

I attempted it years ago, but I only actually got one taker! I do senior photography on the side, and one of my seniors wanted a scrapbook page of some of her images. I think I charged $20, but that was in a professional photography scenario.

In the end, I feel like it might seem fun, but just like turning any hobby into a business - it can steal some of the love you have for your hobby if you have to work too much at it!

Years back I helped out my neighbor who wanted to gift her daughter a scrapbook album of school years. I didn't design for a month and handed out free kits to other scrappers in exchange for them doing a page. We got it done and the family loved it and it was not worth my money or time to have done it. LOL.

As a high school graduation gift to a girl who had been my daughter's good friend since they were toddlers, I created a large album of layouts with all the photos I had taken of her through the years. It was a lot of work, but I loved putting that together for her and know she will treasure it.

The difference between those stories was the attitude of the person I was gifting my time and work to.

I scrap for others but not on a paid basis. And, I started doing it because it was family. I have made 4 shutterfly 100+ page books for them. I get the joy of doing pages for kids, especially school and activities and the various travels the family has done over the years. I pull the photos from their FB posts along with the description and use their words on the pages.

They love them and I love doing them!

I also did a couple of books for another cousin of photos I've taken when I'm with their family over the years. She also loves those books. Neither of these families have scrapbookers so this gives them a little more than just photos to look at.

But I won't do it for anyone else.

I have never digitally scrapped for anyone else, but I did do an album for my sister's god-daughter. It was from birth to graduation and it took me forever, but she loved it, so it was worth it.

Before I went digital, I did an album for my cousin's 40th birthday celebrations. It took a long time but she treasured it so it was worth it. I've been asked many times over the years why I don't turn my scrapbooking into a business but I always say that no one would want to pay what the books are really worth!! It just takes too much time to be profitable. Besides, I've spent so much time taking photos of my kids' sports teams over the years that I never get to work on my scrapbooking and I'm itching to get back to it!! The closest that I will get to scrapping for other people is my plan to do books of trips I've taken with girlfriends or other couples.
