Wedding apparel help, please!
Ladies, I need your help! Steve and I are attending a wedding in a few weeks and I have no idea what to wear. It's in the evening(and in a museum)so my guess is semi-formal. I was looking at this dress but Steve said it's weird to wear black to a Summer wedding. I can see his point but something on the floral side also seems weird to wear at night. For some reason it seems more fitting in the day if that makes any sense at all. Thoughts?

Wedding guest style for her
* Informal Daytime: Short dress or suit (business attire OK for morning weddings) * Informal Evening: Cocktail dress * Semi-Formal Daytime: Short dress or suit * Semi-formal Evening: Cocktail dress * Formal Daytime: Short dress or suit. Hats and gloves optional. * Formal Evening or Black-Tie: Long or dressy short cocktail (beading, glam accessories, wrap) * Ultra-formal or White Tie: Long gown, extra glitz (furs, diamonds, etc.) Do's and Don'ts for Her * Don't wear white because it competes with the bride. There are plenty of other colors available. * Don't wear black or sequins during the daytime. * Don't worry about wearing the same colors as the bridesmaids or mothers. You can't possibly coordinate with everyone in the wedding party. * Do wear something feminine and appropriate, out of respect for your hosts. Clubwear, overtly sexy clothing (strapless, see-through, etc) doesn't belong at a wedding. If you have to ask if it's appropriate, it probably isn't. * Don't wear opera-length gloves (to top of arm) with anything but sleeveless or strapless gowns. * Do take off gloves to eat or drink. * Do use good judgment if the invitation doesn't specify the formality of the event. A pastel suit or soft floral dress for daytime or a little black dress for evening (after 6 p.m.) will take you almost anywhere. I have that dress and hate it..the cinchy thing in the back is NOT flattering. i have no chest though (well I do now hahhaa) so that might be the problem before. Not sure how tall you are, but I'm 5'4 and it's SHORT. I'd probably go for a tad longer dress and I'd be ok wearing black...

Oh Meg, I love you! I'm 5'0 and have mosquito bites for boobies so that dress would definitely not work for me. Thank you so much for that information. I'm going to print it out and hit the mall where I can actually try dresses on. I think I'm going to go with a little black dress, though.

i almost always wear black to weddings but only b/c of the whole black is slimming, etc... but it is also easy to find shoes to go with it and jewelry... nothing wrong with wearing black girl!

I like to wear black too, to evening weddings, or a very dark color, like navy, burgandy.

I think you're fine with black. I think Jene had a great idea to add a colored wrap, but I still think just black is fine.

I think it's ok to wear black for an evening wedding also. My DH's good friend got married last year and I wore a black dress with burgandy swirls...a lot prettier than I can describe!!

I always wear black to weddings. I tink it's classy. But I'm from NY and we wear black to everything. Or so I'm told.
