I didn't know Sony made one, but if I were to get one I'd probably get the Kindle even thought it's slightly more expensive. I think there are probably WAY more titles available for Kindle than just regular ebooks (but I could be mistaken on that one).

NOT that I'm planning on getting one anytime soon, lol...I prefer to hold books in my hand and with a Kindle/ebook type deal you can't just send it on to the next person because of copyright laws. I read books and then send them along and use the points I get from sharing my books to get others that I want to read. It's slightly cheaper and helps save trees! LOL!

Don't you spend enough time with your face in front of a computer, or computer type devices? Give your eyes a break and just read the actual book

I agree, lol! I saw someone using a Kindle on the plane while I was flying to Cali though and thought it would have been a lot less awkward than trying to handle an actual book (having to keep it open while I'm attending to children was difficult, lol).

Adobe Reader is free and most libraries have ebooks now. So if you already have a laptop then there you go!!! Free is always better than $300+.

For sure! Just not portable. I wanted it to be portable, like a little Nintendo DS for my purse, except for nerdy readers like me.

HOWEVER...............THIS...

is what has sold me on shaking my head no and never looking back. I was all invisioning myself reading this in doctor's offices, lying on the couch, etc...I forgot that I truly do 80% of my reading in the tub.

THANKS KCB....David will appreciate you talking me off the ledge. I have more productive things to spend my money on anyway. Naomi's feet won't quit growing, for instance.

I want a Kindle really bad.

I have a friend that is undergoing radiation and got the Kindle to take to appointments and treatments. It was easier then taking a laptop and since you can have many many books loaded it was more convenient than actual books.

The pages on the screen on a Kindle look like an actual paper book and does not have backlighting so it is easier on your eyes than a computer screen.

Can you tell I really want one? I don't have space for books and have a little phobia about library books.

you can read books on your iPhone. Maybe not as easy on eyes as Kindle but not bad. I read all of Pride and Prejudice. I am too cheap to actually buy books for iPhone though.

Way cool but I prefer an actual book I wouldn't like the rigidity of the reader, just like I don't like hardback books.

I've gotta agree with the others, I've seen these for awhile now and don't get it - seems like much less strain on the eyes to just read a book and the cost???? Why are they so dang expensive?

The Kindle is freaking awesome!!!

A friend of mine got one right before he was deployed and took about 25 books with him to Afghanistan on it & was able to update his various subscriptions while there. He let me borrow it for a few days when he got back. I am so in love with that thing!!!

It is so easy to read with & to take everywhere & instead of only having the one book to read when you are waiting around, you have dozens to choose from!!!

I was thinking maybe part of our tax refund might be diverted toward one but as DH pointed out, I don't actually do all that much waiting around by myself & I have about 15 audiobooks still to listen too. So no Kindle for me

right now anyway.... someday it will be mine....

I kinda wanted one, but then I realized that I'd get way too many headaches. I do much better reading a book than on a computer.

I absolutely will be asking for a Kindle for Mother's Day or maybe my birthday. You can make the font any size you want, so that will help eye-strain, not hurt it, especially because it's supposed to look like the pages in a book. I'd love to be able to take multiple books with me and have them all fit in that space.

My only thing is that I will *want* it backlit at times and it's not. I'm hoping that by the time my birthday rolls around, they will have a new version out that has that option.

(I too have a phobia about library books...I mean, you don't know where they have been, or where or how people have read them...bathroom, tub, naked. )

Ummm yeah! I have had some smelly books from the library. And then there was the one that a condom wrapper fell out of when I opened it.

Ah, yes, but have you ever seen anyone bowling naked...or in the bathroom? I don't think you have to worry too much about that!

Libraries store more books than you'll ever need and wont cost you anywhere near the price of this gadget.

Im sure you can resist it - itll be superceded and only worth $50 in a year anyway!

Nice, but not worth it, IMO. I guess for me, the act of actually reading a BOOK is what gets it for me. I'm old fashioned that way, though.

My neighbor just got one of these for Christmas. She LOVES it. I'm a book nut... and I've been thinking about getting one too. Seems really cool. Of course, I'm the one who stays up WAY too late listening to my books on my Ipod.

I think if the Sony reader and the Kindle looked prettier I might be more tempted. They look kind of ugly to me LOL. Also I don't generally buy books. I do not fear the library. Although I condom wrapper would seriously give me pause.

Ewww that's gross! But I've borrowed a TON of books from our libraries over the last 6-7 months and I guess I've been lucky enough to never have gotten a smelly or gross book before.

I didn't know they even made such things until hubby found one at Target a couple months ago. It wasn't 300 dollars though. I forget the exact price but it was closer to 200.
