Do you have...
...certain songs that choke you up every time you hear them?

Old Rugged Cross - my grandaddy was a pastor and loved this song, and I learned to love it from an early age. But it means more to me now...and makes me remember him...and I can't listen to it anymore without bawling.

Yes... a few get me choked up and sometimes I cry (especially when I'm PMS'ing, LOL).
Til the Season Comes Round Again by Kenny Rogers. That one reminds me of my Grandpa. Godspeed by the Dixie Chicks. I used to sing this one to DS when he was a baby. Strangely enough, Together by William Shatner. I did a slide show of photos of Ben to this song when he was around 2 and so now when it comes up on my playlist it makes me think of him & how much I love my kids/family. This Woman's Work by Kate Bush. Ugh... this one just gets me. Baby Mine by Alison Krauss. It's because of that sad, sad, scene in Dumbo. I can't hear this one without crying. ... and I'm sure there's many more that I'm just not remembering right now. I'm definitely emotionally connected to a lot of songs that remind me of someone/something sentimental and I'm a cryer. It feels good sometimes to have a good cry. |

Puff the Magic Dragon gets me every time. It makes me think of Zach getting bigger. None of the other kids, just Zach. lol Not sure why, just does, and makes me so sad.

Brook - Zach can't listen to Baby Mine for that same reason. He could never get through that scene without crying when he was little, and he still won't listen to that song.

The National Anthem, pretty much every time it's sung at a sporting event, even if it's on TV.
I tear up at songs in church every week. Especially if they were the songs at my dad's funeral or national songs like America the Beautiful. |

many.. but those that come to mind...
for church... a lot of the old songs - Abide with me, Just as I am, Amazing Grace, The Lord is my Sheppard, How great thou art... pretty much any song sung at a funeral with full organ, I'm bawling - even if I didn't know the person very well. Other songs... Turnaround - Johnny Cash version (there is a girl version, this is the boy one) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t9l0o-N7aQw Me and God - Josh Turner (that was the song playing on the radio when J was born) God Bless the USA by Lee Greenwood - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q65KZIqay4E Beautiful Boy by John Lennon - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_j-tpmdPlI yeah... pretty much any song about kids growing up has me a crying mess...

I don't usually get too emotionally involved in music, but Tears in Heaven by Eric Clapton makes me cry every time.

I tear up when singing more than when listening. Especially Patriotic songs. Or hymns. Or even the children's hymns when they are singing so purely.

Yes, right now Downeaster Alexa by Billy Joel does that. I think it's because the guy in the song is doing what he can to give his wife and kids a good life, working away from home and working hard which is what my husband is doing right now, going away for 3 weeks then coming home for a week.

Mary Did You Know http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IfpK6cNPF7Y, and the version sung by Clay Aitken. I can't watch it/hear it without thinking if I was in Mary's shoes watching my own child go through that.
I'm already there by Lonestar http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1jm5gfuT9Z4 because it reminds me of what our family goes through every time hubby deploys.

I have several that make me cry every time:
The Little Girl by John Michael Montgomery Godspeed by The Dixie Chicks I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day by Casting Crowns Our children's group at church did this song a few days after the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting. I thought I was going to sob out loud. I could not get myself under control because the words were so true. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bK8xB1opuQ8 Days of Elijah and several other hymns that I can't seem to think of right now. |

Yes, Survivor by Destiny's Child. Here's why. In 2001 I suffered a life threatening injury that left me a paraplegic. While in rehab, my youngest son then 6, loved Destiny's Child. I think he had a crush on Beyonce. He would come to visit me and sing the song in my ear. During the week, when I was struggling with rehab, they would play that song and I would always hear my little boy's voice in my ear singing "I'm a survivor, I'm not gonna give up, I'm not gonna stop, I'm gonna work harder ..." There were many days that I wanted to give up, go home, or just ball up and die, but I'd hear him. Even today when I hear that song, I think of that time and it makes me want to cry. Especially since my baby boy is now 18 and soon off college. I survived and I'm witnessing all his wonder moments.
