Default winter storm

we had 8 inches of snow yesterday into this morning. the leaves are still on the trees and the wind coupled with the weight of the wet snow means my entire yard is full of downed branches. we had to chainsaw up some trees in the road so we could get out of our street. the power is out for most of the state and i'm thinking it's not going to come on anytime soon. we are running a generator periodically and dh got the dsl connection working.

i don't think that the kids will be able to trick or treat and there probably won't be any school or work tomorrow. it's crazy! i hadn't even bought pumpkins to carve and it looks like we won't be carving any.

We missed the bulk of it here - they were saying yesterday that we would get up to a foot overnight and into today, but we got maybe 3 inches and the sun is out now.

My cousin down in Manchester, CT is not happy though Not sure if he's still without power now, but he was this morning.

Man, I just don't get why CT is so unprepared for this lately? It seems like every big thing and you guys are losing power all the time.
My parents are in lower NY (North of the city) and got 15.5 friggen inches! Insane! I got a wet dusting of sorts but it's already gone as it's 55 here now. DH drove through some craziness to get to the PSU yesterday. They got close to 6" up there.

Here in Minnesota, we got 30 inches on Halloween in 1991. It was crazy! So I understand a little of the craziness you guys are experiencing. Stay safe!

I totally feel for you Celeste! On Oct 26, 1997, we got about 18" of wet snow here in Lincoln, Nebraska. All of our trees still had their leaves and so we lost a TON of trees. Power was out for almost a week here. Yes, we get lots of snow here, but not that early in the year, so nobody was prepared! I had to go home from college the day after the storm (my father had passed away) and a normal 4 hour drive took me 13 hours...totally insane!

Your snow was on our news here in the UK, whilst I love snow I wouldn't want it this early in the year, still only Autumn really. Take care of yourselves over there xx

My parents are in CT, and they got 6 inches and have lots of roads blocked because of downed trees. They couldn't leave their house because of the trees, but at least they have power and internet. No tv until Wed. due to downed lines.

Honestly? I wish we'd get something like this where I am. I love snow, but we only get a couple of inches once in every couple years. Last time that was almost exactly two years ago. The snow stayed less than a week, and after half a day wasn't much worth looking at. Last year, it stopped raining in September, and the next time something wet came down from the sky was in mid February, and that was just a bit of snow that didn't even cover the ground.

But I understand if you're not happy about what's going on on your side of the globe ...

I just heard the news here. I never thought you could get a blizzard like that in October. But what do I know about blizzards anyway?
Stay safe, East coasters!

Ditto - but we never get snow here . . we're heading into our summer storm season, complete with heaps of rain, humidity and occasional hailstorms.

Celeste, be careful in that crazy weather! Hopefully that will be the worst of it over and done with

I hope the power comes back soon for those without. Snow + power outage? UGH.

We're supposed to be getting nippier weather but the last few days have been crazy hot/humid.
