Default Let's talk pots and pans

I know nothing except that I hate the ones I have. They are old and used up and yucky with the non-stick stuff that scratches off. I want new pots and pans. I know they can get kind of expensive depending on what you get. I would like non-stick pans, but I don't want the kind with the coating that scratches off. Can I even get that? Educate me about pots and pans, please.

I bought Paula Dean ones at Target last year for about $130 for the set. It was a nice, affordable set. I like it so far. For the really pricey ones, the Emeril and Rachel Ray ones look nice, but they are a lot more money then my Paula Dean ones.

I know what you mean... I had some no stick that the coating was scratching off and they weren't that old...

I got rid of all my nonstick and got an iCook pan... I love... LOVE... this pan! I have had it (broke down and got two, that is how much I love this pan) for I want to say 6 years? And it still looks as good as the day I first used it... (note - I am not an IBO)

Then for all my other cooking, I used these from Cruisinart
http://www.amazon.com/Cuisinart-77-1...cuisinart+pots

I got them cheaper around Christmas time from Sam's club...

We got a set like this from Sam's Club. I don't think they're nonstick, but I just spray a little cooking spray on them before putting anything in them and I've never had a problem.

Another Stainless Steel user here!!! We switched about 5 years ago when I got tired of finding black flecks in our food and having to throw it away!!!

I didn't buy a set I bought mine individually because I only use the big huge pot and the big huge skillet!!! Yeah now cause we have 50 gazillion peeps in our house!!!

Hmm. I'll have to think about Stainless Steel. I should add that everything must be dishwasher safe!!! I'm lazy like that. I might find a good, classic set and start buying pieces one by one.

ETA: Oh and Elizabeth - you are looking AWESOME these days!!! <3

My mom has the wolfgang puck set from sam's as well (has had it for years) and loves it. I have a stainless steel set that we got for a wedding present about 12 years ago and it's still awesome, I throw them in the dishwasher all of the time. I also have a pampered chef nonstick set that my sister gave me after she won it at a party and I used them really heavily for about 1.5 years with no problems (and even though it says not to I've run them through the dishwasher as well just making sure there was nothing that would scratch the surface up next to them). We switched to cast iron about 6 months ago so I rarely use my nonstick any more but of course you can't wash them in the dishwasher. I love the cast iron though...it browns so much better than the nonstick coating, and not as hard to take care of as I'd been afraid they would be (it took me 5 years to work up the nerve to use them..lol).

I'm still using my stainless steel Farberware set that I got 28 years ago as a wedding present from DH's parents. They have the heavy plate on the bottom and are still working great. (Except for the small one that let boil dry with green beans in it several years ago!)

I bought these and I LOVE them. They come really clean in the dishwasher. They took me a bit to get used to. STuff would get really hot and stick to the bottom. Just don't cook on high heat and rinse right away and they are perfect. A steal too

LOL that's what happened to our small stainless pot too. DH put some water on to boil and forgot about it. The bottom fell right off. I loved that little pot for heating up milk and melting butter. I've been saying for years that I'm going to replace it but I still haven't done it.

Stainless steel for me, too! Don't cook on super high heat, use a little fat, and things don't stick. I love love love my SS (I hate nonstick except for our one little egg pan we use on super low heat and wash by hand). I have an Emeril 15" fry pan and adore it, and will begin replacing my Sam's set (I've broken the lids and can't easily replace them) with individual Emeril pieces and coupons at Bed Bath & Beyond. I just really love the pan that much.

Another stainless steel lover here too! Like Darcy, I only use one non-stick pan, a little egg one, and it was an expensive pan (no problems with flaking... ). But if it's not eggs, then it's being cooked in stainless steel. LOVE my SS!

K - I think you all have me convinced to go with stainless steel with a heavier bottom that has the aluminum in it. I think I know what I'll be saving my Swagbucks for now.

We have both the nonstick kind and stainless steel.

I've been adding Farberware piece by piece with Bed, Bath & Beyond coupons. That's what my mom had and it lasts for decades. I had picked up another brand and was not happy with it. That is when I started purchasing the Farberware. Happy with my stainless steel. Oh, and I put it in the dishwasher also.

Oh, that is what my mom LOVES! She is now on the hunt for pre-1960's Revere Ware (I forgot as to why she likes the earlier stuff better) when we go to rummage sales or on ebay.

I have been slowly replacing my non-stick pots with these Cuisinart Stainless Steel pots. Love them.

I have this set by Ktichenaid & I LOVE them!!! I've been using them for about 7 years now & I cook A LOT! I paid about $300 for them back then & I'd pay it again if I had to, but looks like they're about 1/2 the price now! And, I put them in the dishwasher all the time! If something is stubbornly stuck, nothing a little Bar Keeper's Friend won't cure!

I bought a large set of cast iron pots and pans and I LOVE them!! I had spent money on lots of different pans over the years and none of them compare. I have also supplemented with a few here and there of cast iron. I want to eventually have only cast iron. For baking (aside from cookies) I use glass. For cookies I still use non-stick and have to replace them periodically.
