Great tutorial Keely! I have to ask though - what is padding compound? Can you not just use regular white glue?

Jacinda I've never used plain glue it very well may work. I've used Modge Podge before and it does work but the end product just isn't as nice. When padding compound dries (it dries fast) it's really flexible, it's almost stretchy, so the pad isn't stiff at the top and the papers come away really easily without any tearing. For me the padding compound is definitely worth it, I bought a bottle about three years ago for about $6 and I'm still using it, it's over half full.

That makes sense. I've just never heard of padding compound. I take it craft stores would sell it? Or is it a hardware store kind of thing?

You can get it at craft or art supplies stores. I bought mine online because I didn't want a huge bottle, I can't remember where exactly, Amazon or Etsy most likely.
