Okay all you SAHM's I need some advice
Okay here is what is going on... I stopped working in Feb of 08 and then had my daughter in March of 08... I did not go back to work because it was completely pointless for our family to have me work just to pay daycare... I started watching 2 little girls in July of 08 and it was decided that once their girls turned one (one turned 1 this past Saturday, and the other turns 1 on June 8th) they would go up to the daycare that their siblings are at and the daycare that I used to work at... Okay, so one of the moms said that she might keep her daughter with me for a while longer, like another year or so... So I was really excited, well today she said that she is taking an open spot and will be starting at the day care on May 4th!!!!! The other little girl will go whenever there is a spot for her, so it could be next week or it could be in 2 months... My question for all of you is I need some RELIABLE and realistic ideas to make a little extra money at home... I do not want to go back to work at the day care because I do not get a discount until my dd is 36 months and potty trained and between the cost of weekly tuition and what my checks would be I would only bring home about $100-200 dollars A MONTH!!! So I wanted to see what all of you lovely ladies are doing to make a little extra on the side??? Thanks for any help and ideas!

I do drop in/emergency child care for friends and by word of mouth. I make about $300-400 a month doing it sometimes. But it's not consistent pay.

Perhaps I should charge some of the 4+ kids that are over here all the time during summer, school breaks, and 3-4 days a week. Hmmmmm Wish I had some good advice for you. |

Well, I design and stay at home with my son (and soon with my daughter, too)...
I've been a digital designer for a couple of years and own my shop. Luckily I'm able to stay at home and do that. Have you ever looked into doing scrap-for-hire work? Or maybe creating blinkies, website sets, etc.? Good luck finding something that works for you and your family! |

I do websites, graphics design, etc. It took me awhile to learn the website stuff, but it was well worth it.

I just had an Usborne Books lady come and do a party at my house, and she brought her daughter along. She's been bringing her kids to book parties with her for 10 years! Book parties are really fun too, and Usborne is a great company to work for. If I had a car, that's what'd I'd be doing. You can sell to schools, libraries, do fundraisers for schools, church groups, etc. or just sell to your friends and family and those around you. Work just a little bit, or a lot! The start up costs are reasonable... you need to buy some books to show at your book shows, but they give you a great deal on them... $150 or so to start up is really great, and you make money on every order and lots on every party. Usborne books are REALLY great quality too. They sell themselves.
I have a friends that does Mary Kay sales, they don't even leave their homes, my friends and I all buy our makeup from her, and place orders regularly and she has a great income from that (because I LOVE Mary Kay lipgloss and foundation!). Pampered Chef is really fun too if you like cookware... Those are just a few ideas. But I would say if you can put a notice in at the daycare near you that you are close by and offer home daycare, you might get some clients too. Advertise in your paper or whatever for home day care if you love it - that's great income and you don't have to leave your home, or do any selling if that's not for you. |
