That's insane. I think that's way too far reaching, and will really have a poor effect on the economy.

totally ridiculous. Honestly, I doubt it happens, because with the economy the way it is, I just don't see this as being even remotely "doable".

Amy the law has already passed...

The problem with government is that everyone has their agendas and so these little stupid laws go completely unnoticed. Besides that they don't understand how things affect others outside of themselves and so go on pushing things through without realizing how it will affect millions of other people.

Exactly, it's just another example of how LAME this administration is. There certainly needs to be more oversight over products that come from overseas but this is NOT the answer. It just makes me so sad to think of all the small business owners who will be put out of business because of this.

wow..so that applies to consignment shops too?I guess it would have to because there would be no way of knowing if the product was tested when it was new huh?

Yes, this will have huge effects on crafters who make things for kids, think about craft show artisans, etsy sellers, etc. as well as thrift stores and consignment shops. It is a huge, likely undoable burden, for anyone who doesn't manufacture in bulk with automated processes

This just makes me so mad...everyone PLEASE write to your representatives asking them to amend the law. This site has some great info and ideas on what to include in your letter. I can't think of a better way to approach this...something needs to be done, and FAST!

Wow... that makes me angry (granted, I'm cranky today).

I'm with Corey, we can't afford to buy new clothes for the kids... even at, say, Walmart prices, it's A LOT to spend considering how quickly they grow at these ages. Effin' insane.

Seems yet again an over reaction by lawmakers.

Make sure if you're going to write or call your representatives, that tomorrow they and congress will swear in the new electees tomorrow, so there might be changes as to who represents you as of tomorrow.

This is so completely ridiculous!! I do want to point out, it is just not the blame of the Bush administration, the majority of the house and senate is democrat and they are the idiots who passed the stupid bill.

It just amazes me that they'd do something like this with the economy in such bad shape. I thought the goal was to create jobs and productivity, not destroy it.

Yeah i was thinking about that melissa - the way law making works is that bills have to be passed by the senate and that means that more than just "bush and his croonies" thought it was a good idea

Which in the end isn't really encouraging is it??? LOL what a mess.

I think I will write my congress person.

Yes, it is completely ridiculous. It is going to put so many WAHM's out of business - boutique owners, toy crafters, diaper makers, old ladies that knit baby blankets, etc. etc. All of my friends who make diapers are having to shut down their stores. It is so sad and outrageous. I have written to all my senators and representatives, and I urge you to do the same.
