Default Kindle weird questions...

So, my kindle 3 just got here!

Well, it's not mine, actually, it's my bf birthday presents, but I had to open it and check if everything was ok since to send it back to the States in case something was wrong would have took a long time.
Anyway, it's really really cool!! I'm loving it so much I'm thinking about getting one for myself.
Here's 2 questions.
The first one is this, is there a way to switch it off, completely?? I mean, I know I can put it on sleep, but since it's a present I wanted to know if there was a way to switch it off as it arrived.

The second one... when I go through the menu and using the browser (I have the wifi only version...) sometimes it "freeze". Not a real freezing, it doesn't crash or anything, the screen just act weird, with very quick image vibration, as an old tv which is trying to adjust...

Not sure this is understandable lol
Any tip, kindle owner?!

Hold the power button off to the side for like 3 seconds and then it should turn completely off.

Sometimes I have the images hiccup on the screen in the browser as well, usually just means I have a crappy connection to the internet for it.

Thanks!! I'll try with another internet connection to see if it change... I've read anyway that there's a firmware update for the kindle 3... that should fix this problem, I guess.
About switching it off... I did as you said, more than once. But it won't switch off. Maybe with the kindle 3 is different!? I'll try again once at home...

With the 3 version, you have to hold it for more like 6-7 seconds, until you see the green light on the slide button flash. Then it completely powers down. I just got mine about 10 days ago. I had that freeze thing happen a couple times in the first 24 hours but it seems to have stopped now, except occasionally when I am in the Kindle Store & I blame my wifi connection for that.

yeah, it might take a bit longer to turn off. Mine takes less time than my mom's, even though we both have kindle 2's, just different versions
