When that becomes a problem at our house, we then spend time practicing putting it into the hamper/basket, because obviously its a skill we've forgotten and need to relearn Usually, 25 times gets it right!

Same goes for slamming the toilet seat. If you can't close it properly, obviously its a skill we need to relearn

I'm SUCH a mean mommy.

Andrew got rid of the hampers. Now the clothes is strewn about even more than it was before. Things get rewashed because we never know if it's clean or dirty.

This sounds just like what my brother does. He plays a game called "Take 5." He pretends he's running a movie camera and "films" his kids taking their dishes from the table to the sink, for example: Take 1. And, he narrates as he's "filming." Then, he gets their dishes, puts them back on the table and they do it all over again: Take 2. And, they keep going till they've done five takes.

I've never actually done this, but every time I think about watching my brother doing it with his kids, I think I should start.

Ok so what do you do when it's your husband? There are times I can't get in the bathroom bc of his dirty clothes. Do I make him practice? Lol. He'd kill me. Ha!

At least they make it that far! In my house, I find socks in the family room, pants on the bedroom floor, shirts on the bathroom floor, and underwear all over the place. It's like my 8-yr-old son is leaving a trail of breadcrumbs in case he gets lost on his way to take a shower!

No - but sometimes they end up back on his side of the bed to do again We've had a talk, before, how I'm not his maid. I do his laundry, but I don't pick up after him, and it's a sign of disrespect, to me, for him to toss his stuff around and expect me to pick it up.

Doesn't mean it works, but it does for awhile LOL

The worst is when you get all of the laundry done and then a huge pile hidden somewhere.........my oldest does this......

this is exactly what I say, I wash your clothes, i iron them and put them away I will NOT be your maid and pick up after you. Luckily enough his side of the bed you cant see when you walk through the bedroom door so I cant see it. he does pick them up eventually when he cant get into bed because of all the clothes in his way

when that happens at our house it doesn't get washed!!! It took just once for my older girls to have ZERO clothes (or they only had ugly "leftover" clothes as they called them ) to wear to school for them to learn!!! Now every Friday (their laundry day) their clothes baskets are waiting in the laundry room for me!!

The little boys are "learning", it helps that I'm usually in the room when they disrobe so I can prod them with gentle reminders to were the clothes belong! But my 7 year old is a little sweetheart and his clothes are always in the clothes basket!!

Now my hubby...well he realized 14 years ago he was a lost cause (or he was tired of me harping on him all the time) so he washes his own clothes!!!

Well, I'm a mean mommy too! Slamming doors drives me nuts...so my older DS has to open and close it 10 times until he can learn to do it right!

One of my kids is great about it the other one misses every now and again, but my husband......he laughs about his sock farm. He takes his socks off and lets them pile up next to the bed. He gets ready for work while the rest of us are still sleeping (and doesn't want to wake me up ) so he changed in the living room. There are always clothes draped over chairs , piled on the table and whatnot. He fully owns it and fortunately makes up for it in other ways, there are other things he does that are more annoying LOL

So how do you handle it when the messy one is not your child or husband, but your mother? My mother has lived with me since my father's death and keeping up with her untidiness is beyond me. I do all the laundry and when I go into her room to collect it, I just want to cry. It is like a 14 year old girls lives in there. I've tried everything. I even redecorated for her last year, hoping it would make her want to keep all the new things nice, but it only lasted for a month or so, then it was the same pigsty. If I don't clean it, it won't get cleaned, but I bulk at cleaning up after a grown woman.

It's the same way at my house. DS got a cute dog hamper for Christmas to help him but the kids still leave stuff all around the house, especially in the bathroom. I can't stand clothes being left on the bathroom floor. We've talked about teaching DD (she's 8.5) how to do laundry and maybe that will deter her from leaving them all around.

I didn't even bother to buy laundry baskets for this new house. I decided to spent the money in scrapbook stuff, so I can have some scrap therapy and forget about the clothes everywhere issue.

I had a friend that she use to pick her husbands dirty clothes up, fold them and put them back in his drawer after awhile he got the picture LOL!!!! We have 2 laundry baskets in the laundry room, one in our bathroom and my oldest {18} has one in her room...everybody else is required to put their clothes in one of the designated basekts! I don't like having to go from room to room to get clothes, so my DD puts her basket in the laundry room when she needs her stuff washed {and yes she can do her own clothes, but it is easier to do everybody's together} and I get the clothes out of my bathroom....so really there is only 1 stop for me...I have to admit sicne we moved in our new house and have a basket IN our bathroom, my DH is much better at getting his clothes in teh basket
