Prints from Costco
Does anyone know how much edge you need to leave on a Costco print to account for their bleed enlargement? I made some 5x7 cards I want to send out and would love to pick them up today...but second guessing that plan if they are going to be lopsided and cut off anyway. Had this problem several years ago with an invitation I made. I was so disappointed with the non-centered outcome and Costco told me it was because I "uploaded the file on-line". That was before I knew about bleed...

I did my christmas cards from Costco this year and they did cut off a little but not much. Here is the card
and when I look at the prints they cut off the bottom where the outside lower edge of the circle on the left is touching the edge. And at the top the left bow loop is touching the edge. |

I printed my cards at Costco, too. They only trimmed my card by about 1/8 inch around the edges. Not bad.

I've printed cards at Costco several times and been happy. My usual rule of thumb is not to put anything important within 1/3 of an inch from the edge, and that worked fine with my Costco cards.

ugh! dont get me started on Costco printing! Maybe we just have bad luck here, but they seem to cut it different every time, and the color is different every time too. :P

You know, I really think it depends on the staff at your closest warehouse. I have always had exceptional prints from the store by me. They seem knowledgeable and if there's ever a problem, they fix it. They pay attention to the colors & cuts in the prints and any problems. I print a lot of my 12x12 layouts there and they always look great... and I'm picky. I remember it was the same way years ago when we used to process our film at Eckerds drugstores... one would have great prints and the other had awful quality. If the employees *at your Costco* aren't calibrating the machine or fixing things when cuts get crooked your prints will look terrible.
The good thing is, if there ever is a problem with color, if you pick up your prints they are always willing to reprint. *Had to edit to fix that sentence! Last edited by YepBrook; 01-06-2013 at 02:40 PM. |

I agree Brook - it has a lot to do with who is working!
