Default What Else Do You Scrap?

I’m 7 weeks in, and really enjoying the project life experience this time around. But. my pages cover so much ground about our everyday life that I’m finding it hard to find other things to scrap about. For instance, last year I did a series of pages about our visits to local parks, but this year that would probably be part of a project life spread... so do I scrap a page about it anyway and go into more detail about the experience, or just consider it documented and be done with it? Sometimes I have so many extra photos and I can only fit so many on a Project Life spread.

Anway, I’m curious... do you only scrap project life/pocket pages, or what else do you scrap!?

I scrap my PL pages, then I scrap additional pages of anything else I want from that week. Sometimes I go more in-depth about something I've already included on the PL layout, sometimes I don't use an event on a PL spread because I plan to make a whole layout about it. I try to not have any rules in my scrapbooks because I just want it to be fun. So if I loved something enough to scrap it twice, I do!

Makes sense. I love your attitude! What do you end up doing with your ‘extra’ pages?

PL is great for showcasing a time period, a day, a week, etc but how about taking some of the photos and doing LOs that focus more on thoughts, feelings, effects, hopes...the more emotional side of the photos rather than what, where, when....that is probably covered in your PL pages.

Also....what Ally said....I too will scrap the same photo more than once, depends on the purpose of the page, the context in which I use it again.

I print them right with the PL spreads. They go in the right week, chronologically, and that’s where the “feelings” pages go too. I like the variety of different kinds of pages all together

Awesome! Thanks for the suggestions. I guess I'll keep scrapping like I normally do on top of the PL spreads, stop feeling silly about being redundant with photos/topics, and stop over thinking things!!

What everyone else has said. That's what I do too. I do a yearly book that might have 3-6 Project Life style pages per month (I do mine monthly rather than weekly) and only two or three other pages for that month... other months there could be 10 or more other pages (e.g. December with Christmas, etc). It used to bother me a bit that I had hardly any non-PL pages some months. Its usually a reflection of our life though in that some months just aren't as busy as others. I'm so stretched for scrapping time these days too so the less pages I have to scrap the better!

I'll sometimes throw in some pages I scrap just for fun/creatively that aren't really documenting anything in particular but have a photo I like - that helps balance my books out too.

Let's preface this by saying I have yet to successfully complete a PL project, so I definitely don't have the system down. I've started several times, so I have random PL pages for various years LOL.

I am doing it this year (so far anyway). In my head, PL is for the random snapshots - the ones that give a view overall of what our life looked like. Normally I wouldn't scrap a photo of my oldest son turning his head away from the camera and covering his face or something else equally uncute, but for PL it's perfect. Those photos show what my kids are like right now, and I usually give a snippet of explanation for them.

My other pages are usually either:
1. Event pages - bday, holiday, vacation, outing
2. Fave photos - When I do my kids' portraits, I usually scrap a bunch of those photos individually because I love them.
3. Art journal - these are my therapy pages that I just more enjoy the process, and I like back looking at how I felt at a certain time.
4. Faves pages & list-type layouts that show things I or one of my kids is loving right now.

I think that pretty much covers my scrap theory!

When I did my P52 layouts I always scrapped photos from the week because they were that important to have their own page made about them. I looked at it as my p52 was a summary, while my layouts were more focused on the moments that happened.

I know, I'm no help

My best photos and stories get their own non-pocket pages, as do big events that won't fit in the week's pocket page. Those big events might get their own pocket page, their own traditional page, or some of each depending on how many photos there are. Very often I'll mention something on the pocket page (like saying it was Lauren's birthday and including a few photos) but scrap it in more depth on its own page with the 2 best photos. I don't reuse photos--I generally have more than enough to do different ones on the pocket and traditional pages!

As for arranging the pages, I think I do it a little differently than most people. I put PL and traditional pages together in the same photobook, but I don't put them by week. I first put all the PL pages for a given month and then all the traditional pages for that month. My PL pages are usually 2-page spreads. When I tried arranging them with PL spread and then traditional pages from that week, there were too many times when I had an odd number of pages for a week and then the next week's spread couldn't be placed side by side without me scrapping more pages to fill in the gaps. Doing it like I do, I tend to find I have a few pages that can be placed in multiple places (like a school picture that can go anytime in the fall or a page with photos from multiple dates that can go in any of those months) and those are enough to fill in most of the gaps.
