Angry Ugh. Root canal.

I have been in terrible pain the last two days. I went to the dentist this afternoon, and I have an abcess. I have to have a root canal Wednesday. I have have kidney stones and I've given birth, and this pain is way up there. I'm going to try to get my "gimme more" lo finished this evening, then I'm done for a few days. Please pray for me!

I feel your pain - literally! I went into my dentist about a month and a half ago with some tooth pain/sensitivity on a tooth I had a root canal on 7 years ago. Well, he immediately sent me to an endodontist where xrays showed I had an abscess and needed a root canal. Lovely! Mind you, I was 6 months pregnant at the time, so that was even more fun. She wanted to do it in 2 sessions and after the first session I was ok for a couple of days and then on Saturday (of course) the crap hit the fan and I thought I was going to die! I tried calling the office hoping an after hours thing would pick up, but it just rang and rang. So I went to urgent care and got some pain meds to get me through until Monday. They got me in Monday afternoon and the thing had totally freaked out! She had pretty much do the root canal again and then she wanted me to come back for a 3rd session to make sure it was healing.Oh! And come to find out there is an after hours answering service, someone forgot to turn it on on Friday!!! I had no problems from the 2nd to 3rd session and she put in a permanent filling and told me not to go back to my dentist and get a new crown until I come back in February for new xrays to make sure the abscess has healed. I was good for about 2 weeks and then it started aching again. Mind you I've maxed my dental insurance for the year, so I was trying not to go back in. I started taking garlic - a natural antibiotic - and it has felt so much better. It still feels weird, I don't like to chew on it, but I'm hoping it's healing nicely At least it doesn't ache or I don't feel it constantly. For those two weeks it felt like that side of my mouth was coming out of being numbed - it was just really weird. I hate teeth! LOL

So my prayers are totally with you for a quick and effortless recovery!

(((hugs))) to you. I've had a couple of root canals, one bridge, and 4 or 5 crowns in the past year. I'll spare you the details, but my dentist is a nightmare and I could say alot more, but won't...don't have time LOL. However, she sent me to an endontologist for 1 of the root canals and it was absolutely pain-free and only took about an hour. I was thrilled with them. Hope that it all goes smoothly for you and that you feel better soon! Dental pain is the worst...43 hours of labor wasn't that bad LOL.

I'm sorry you're in pain! I had a root canal about a year ago. It was a much better experience than I expected, pain-free and with no lingering effects. I hope yours goes as smoothly and you're feeling better soon!

I've had a couple root canals and they SUCK! My teeth was so infected my whole face swelled up THREE times before I had it checked out. They gave me MORPHINE and it didn't do a thing for the pain so I feel yah.

Good news is, once it's over there's virtually no pain.

Ooooo...dental pain I spent Halloween Day (yes, just a couple days ago) getting a crown...on a tooth that had had a triple root canal by an endodontist previously. That one tooth has so much money in it, it's not even funny.

Hope all goes well for you!

I recently had a root canal in 3 x 45min sessions and had no pain. The most pain was the actual needle at the beginning.

I had a root canal, last January ( January 2nd, since we finally got dental coverage January 1st! I was taking antibiotics for 4 weeks prior to this to keep the swelling down). It was a LOT better than I expected. I've had a few cavities filled, and 15 teeth pulled at various times (my dentists bright idea was to pull my baby teeth at the right time so my adult teeth would grow in straight and I wouldn't need braces, which were not covered under my parents dental plan - I thought he was a lunitic at the time, but it worked! I have straight teeth!) and that was waaaaaaaaaay worse.
I hope and pray your root canal goes as well as mine! Just thinkk, you'll be free of pain soon!

aww Tracie! I've had several and the pain from the root canal was never anywhere NEAR as bad as the toothache itself. It was usually like a relief actually! I hope it will be that way for you!!

See, now I've had 2 done and they weren't painful to me at all. Of course I take anti-anxiety meds before I go to the dentist so that would be why...

I hope you get some relief soon! Tooth pain is the worst!!!
