Default Best Way To Resize Layouts to Upload?

Good morning!

Its been years since I've last scrapbooked and I'm getting back into it but I've completely forgotten the best way to resize layouts to upload them to the gallery. So I was curious what does everyone do? Can you share some tips?

I just resize my flatten image to 700 x 700 and save for the web. I click optimized and save it at 100%.

If you're using Photoshop:
Image> Image Size> 700x700 and resolution 72 > ok
File> Export> Save for Web> Optimized> Optimize to file size> 499k> ok> save

does anyone know the difference between 'flatten image' and 'merge visible' since they have the same effect? difference in size? quality?

Just guessing since I don't use "merge visible," but it seems like that one would preserve any hidden layers whereas "flatten image" wouldn't.

This might be a tutorial to check out..

https://www.sweetshoppedesigns.com/t...web-using-psp/

This tutorial adds another step, the one to sharpen your layout. I know a lot of digital scrappers do this (including me ). Hope this tutorial is helpful.

...oh, so sorry. just noticed this tutorial is for psp. i'll have a browse for another tutorial and if I find one, I'll add it to this post

I have tried and tried...

I use a flattened image, make a copy of it, rename it for the gallery then resize 700x700 @72, go to File-Export-Save For Web-Optimized to 256 and save and everytime I try to upload it says it is too large. What am I missing?

THANKS!!!

When you say optimized to 256, is that the size of the file (256K)? If so then I think you may need to "gain" gallery posting privileges by making a certain number of comments first. I think the first level of unlocking comes after about 10 comments. Try posting comments on 10 gallery layouts and then upload again. If you meant something else by optimized to 256, then I can walk you through how to get your file small enough by adjusting the quality in the save for web dialogue.

ETA: I just looked back in some forum threads to try to confirm the 10 posts rule. One comment seemed to say that new members couldn't post comments in the gallery either. They needed 10 forum posts to gain all gallery access. A shortcut is to read this post and follow the link in it to request your account be upgraded to full member.

When you merge visible layers, it still keeps all the hidden layers, which you then have to delete anyway. I've also noticed that sometimes when you merge visible layers, the shadowing doesn't always keep it's correct hue. Watch for that. Easier to just flatten the whole image, duplicate, resize 700x700, sharpen and then save for web. I don't do the 'export' thing. Just save for web.
