Default Domain host?

Its been about 2 years since I've had my own website and I miss it. I can't even remember what company I went through before so I was wondering what company do you use? What company have you had problems with?

I've hosted on LiquidWeb (www.liquidweb.com) for years. They might not offer as much server space as the next guy for the same price but their customer service is unmatched. There hasn't been a single issue I've contacted them for (and believe me when I say I've had some weird ones) that they haven't been able to assist me with...quickly. When I accidentally deleted a good number of the pages on the site, they were able to restore it all in less than hour. I can't say enough about their customer support.

I bought my domain thru godaddy and my hosting is thru HostGator. I'm happy with both I learned a couple of years ago when I lost my original domain name b/c of my host (fatcow..not calling them a fat cow..that was their name) to not buy your domain thru whoever you host thru. Keep them separate in case something happens and your hosting company closes or something you aren't out your domain name if you can't transfer it.

I use siteground.com. They have unlimited space and bandwidth and I've been with them for almost 8 years. Great customer service and they are always improving their service.

I second BlueHost. I have 7 websites through them and I've used them for a long time. Their customer service is excellent, there is never any downtime and their simple package and rates are fantastic. They are also highly recommended by Wordpress.

Good luck!

My husband and I have our blogs hosted through 1&1. We haven't had any problems with them. I did try to switch hosts about a year or so ago because I wanted a company with technical assistance within the US (such as BlueHost), but it was too much of a hassle to switch at the time. I haven't looked into it again.

Three months ago, I would have said that I love HostGator. We had dedicated hosting through them for TDC. But a few weeks ago, the hard drive that TDC and our personal sites were living on started to die. They should have seen the warning signs that the hard drive was failing--if they had bothered to look at the reports it was generating. My husband had to get in touch with tech support to say "Hey--can you go there and check on this?" By that time it was too late. What's the point of dedicated hosting if no one is looking out for the server?!

So, instead of doing their jobs, years of data was lost...

Yeah. I'm no longer that much of a fan.

Ouch, Nicole, that's terrible! Have you found an alternative host? This scares me as a Host Gator customer.

No, we haven't. But I think Sinead does want to move the site, so we are the lookout for a better place to go...

Oh! And best part of all--they still charged us for the month minus a day or two. The downtime was short and backups are always the customer's responsibility. That's pretty standard. But still... it was all their fault! I think good customer service should have dictated a refund.

That is one of the reasons I love siteground...they have a backup addon and it isn't that costly, so I never have to worry too much about losing anything.
