GIMP- How do I convert psd to png? Anyone?

I use the Storybook Creator program and it only allows me to use templates that have a .page file or pngs. I've noticed some people mentioning GIMP to help convert psd to png. I've never tried GIMP and would love to have some pointers on the steps to take to converting. PLEASE HELP!!
