Default Small Camera Reccomendations?

I miss too many photo opps by not having my dslr with, so I think I need a small camera to keep in my purse.

Anyone have any suggestions for a very small one?

I love my nikon coolpix s51c. I sometimes even carry it in my pocket
The only thing I don't like about it is how long it takes to actually take the pic, so I still miss some photo ops, but it's a sturdy little camera. Sometimes I'm surprised when I get a really awesome quality photo! Overall, I'm pretty happy with it.

ETA: *didn't mean for that to sound like it generally takes bad quality photos! I think I'm just a bad pic taker, and sometimes I'm really impressed by how good a pic I just snapped randomly comes out really nicely.

I just got a new Sony Cyber-shot W290. It got really good reviews (I think from C-Net). It had some great features I liked, like a setting just for fireworks, an anti-blink feature (my mom frequently blinks in pictures) and image stabilization as well as the ability to show pics in HD (we have an HD TV) and to shoot at different shutter speeds. The only problem was the cost of the memory stick for it - I will be getting my memory stick tomorrow, so I haven't had a chance to check out all these cool features...

we are looking at this too, when we replace our P&S. So happy with every Nikon I have ever owned (regular SLR and now my DSLR).

I have a Canon 770IS and is really small and takes pretty good pictures if the lighting is good. Perfect for outings where you don't want to take your DSLR!

I have an old Nikon Coolpix that's still kicking. I've made a point of keeping it with me so I can keep up with p365. "Camera snobbery" is what stopped me last year, lol.

I really want this one because of the low light performance:

I'm dreaming of the Canon Powershot SD1200

We have an older Canon Powershot and we've been happy with it, this new one would be perfect for carrying in my purse so I can stop missing out on so many photo ops!

I have the same problem and just convinced my DH to get my a PnS for this passed Christmas. So I have a Canon Powershot and so far I'm pretty happy with it. It's such a switch going back to a small camera after my mammoth Canon Rebel, but like you said, it's just impossible to have a big camera with you all the time.

Have you looked into getting a faster card? I guess there are memory cards out there that "speed" up the saving of the photo on the memory card... at least that is what the dude at the camera store told us when I was shopping for a new camera since that is one of my two annoyance... the other being low lighting.
