Default When I win the $640m...

Stateside girls, did you check out the Mega Millions lotto? I know the odds of winning are like... nothing. But. Fun questions for you.

1) Did you buy a ticket? How many?
2) Did you pick the numbers? Let the computer pick for you? Any significant numbers?
3) What would you do with the $640,000,000 if you won?

The odds of winning are 1 in 176 million... but I think I have a good shot because any bad thing they say is like "1 in x amount (rare)" my family ends up with it... so... why not something good, too? :P

I bought 2 tickets. I've NEVER bought a lottery ticket before, and I did it on a whim- mom and I were joking about it, and I did it. If I lose, I'm out two bucks. If I win, well, you know...

So. I picked one set of numbers (my son, brother, mom, and my own birthdays), and let the computer pick the other one (which, funny enough, had the date that I met my best friend -former boyfriend- as well as his birthday and the day we started dating, as well as 10, which is the month we did. I texted him and told him this, then told him that, when I don't win with that ticket, it's his fault).

If I win, I'm tithing a good chunk of it, and with the rest, I'm saving some for me, some for Zach, some for my parents. Then I'm paying for my grandfather's cancer treatment, and buying the condo my family has always wanted on Dauphin Island. And then I'm buying every item the Sweet Shoppe sells, and storage for future kits.

Your turn... dream big!

Oh wouldn't that be nice? I'm not sure what I'd do with that much money, but it's fun to dream!

Good luck with your ticket!

We don't have that type of lottery in Florida but if I won I'd do the following:
Pre-pay college tuition for my all my neices and nephews and the kids of my closests friends.
Rent a house in Europe for the summer so we could spend the summer exploring
Buy vacation houses all over the world so we could travel often
Give to lots of charities
Save, save, save - and set up trusts so my kids and some day grandkids would be set for life.

My husband's work did a collection and got 100 tickets for the 10 people in his group to share. We have a $15 scratch ticket winner still sitting on the fridge from like a month ago, so I told my husband he can walk to the corner market and have our son pick out some numbers with it, since he is so lucky! We don't expect to win, but with such a big jackpot its fun to try! If we did win though we would pay off our parents mortgages and take the kids to Disney World!

If we won, we'd take a few dream vacations with all our family, buy a nice house, and save the rest.

If i were to win that much money

I'd give some to charity
Buy my parents their own house
Pay off my college and CC debt
Take my mom on a vacation to all the places she wants to see
Give my mom the Alaskan cruise she has been wanting
Put money into a trust for my son and future kids and grandchildren

and everything at SSD til the end of time.

I've been on my kindle with siggies turned off for weeks now, and hadn't noticed. Thanks for the heads up! I think it's time for a change anyway.

oh - have to send an email to hubby to remind him to stop after work...

He ONLY buys lotto ticket when it's above $250Mil... haha...

We would put it all in saving and live off the interest... but in reality, I wouldn't want that much money overnight... I'd be happy with $6mil...

Never entered a lotto and probably never will. BUT, with that much money . . . I'd pay off the mortgage and all other debts - along with my sister's. THEN, I'd go buy a big ol' plot of land and have two custom houses built - one for me and one for my sister. Custom decorating and custom landscaping as well. Then, I'd go buy a fabulous grand piano and an awesome camera. The rest would be used for kids' college and other responsible stuff like that, even though I'm sure there would be plenty of money left over.

LOL - I just bought my one ticket - I hardly ever buy one but I figured what the heck - can't win if you don't play

This is what I'd do:
1. Sign my ticket so no one else could claim it (just in case it got lost or something
2. Contact my lawyer and financial adviser pronto.
3. Wait several weeks to claim it.
4. Set up a foundation to handle the tons of calls I would be sure to get from people looking for a handout (that way someone else would be fielding the calls and I could pick and choose the causes I wanted to support).
5. Gift my parents, my 2 sisters, my son, my 2 BFFs and set up trusts for all their kids for college.
6. Pay off what debt I have.
7. Buy a '67 Corvette convertible
8. Buy a membership in the Disney Vacation Club.
9. Travel, travel, travel.
10. Decide what kind of business I would start to keep myself occupied.

We bought 5 tickets & let the machine pick the numbers.

After taxes it would only be about $320 million so I suppose I should limit my plans I'd be happy just to hit 4 numbers & get $10,000. or 5 for $250,000. I can plan for those amounts - a nice vacation, money towards college for the kids. $640 million is just Monopoly money to me. It's too big to be real. I thing I would find it extremely stressful to have to deal with that much money once the mortgage was paid off and we spent a month on a luxury tour Europe.

I am planning to go buy 1 or 2 tonight. Why not, huh? I would buy some land outside of town and build houses a few houses for me, my mom & step-dad, my brother and anyone else willing to move here cause I am only willing to pay for your house if you move here. I would also hire a designer to furnish them. Then I would buy a brand new SUV, a sports car and a motorcycle plus one for my family members, too. I would go to Europe with a friend so I could do tons of exploring. I would take my siblings and nieces and nephews on a big Disney trip. I would send my mom on a trip to Alaska (her dream) and buy my step-dad a boat so he could move here and go fishing in Lakes Country on his retirement. I would buy my brother a Mercedes. After all that fun spending, I would set up a company to help people who are struggling with money issues. I would also start a few businesses I have always wanted to open like a restaurant and a dance club. The rest would be invested wisely.

I'm one of those that have never, nor will ever, play the lotto but I would buy a house on land for sure. i would pay off student loans (there's not much and it's our only debt). I would pay off my family member's debt...and since I did their's I guess I'd have to do my in laws too... fun stuff? definitely a trip or two and a horse or two.

It's made the news in the uk tonight. I would buy everything in this shop first then I think I would go on a major spending spree. Houses for family members, cars, someone who will do my ironing!

I've decided on getting mine in payments, rather than the lump sum. If I do go crazy and stupid with my money, at least I'll have another payment coming, kwim? It's $19 million pre-tax for 26 years, so I'm pretty sure that'll keep me occupied each year, right? :P

I know that I want to give generously to my parents and grandparents. They've done so much for me, and they deserve to have their dreams come true, too. Also, I want to spend a little bit of it just because money's always been tight- it would be fun to get to do something silly and frivolous with at least part of it.

Oh, and the first thing I'll do is fly my Brazilian brother back to the states for a visit... he wants to come SO badly, but plane tickets back are SO expensive. So, I'd be giving him (and my other brothers and sisters around the world) a flight here to hang out for awhile.

I lost... so I'm crossing my fingers that EVERYONE lost. If no one won, there's a chance that the jackpot will hit one billion dollars! Oh my gosh! That'd be worth buying more tickets for!

wow that is a HUGE amount!!
Definitely pay off all our family's bills, get my in-laws into a nicer house, take all our friends and family's to Disney or on a cruise or something, give a bunch to church and missions projects, ... and I am sure hubby would want a new house!

I've been stuck home with a sick kiddo and didn't buy one, but if it goes another week I will. Hmm...what to do with the money.

What I want most is time. So to start, I'd hire someone to come do the cooking and cleaning so that I have more time for the kids and myself.
Pay off our house, but then probably buy a new one nearby rather than bother with all the "one day we'll..." projects in this one.
Buy a 2nd home closer to my family, buy my brother and sister homes or apartments, and buy my parents a 2nd home closer to us.
Set up trust funds for my kids, my nephew, and the other family mentioned above.
Travel
Buy a new camera and computer, along with lots of SSD goodies.
Find a way for DH to spend more time with us. I don't think he'd want to stop working, but maybe he could go down to part time or we could build him a soundproofed office so he could work from home a few days a week and not have such a long commute.
I'd also donate some, especially to certain children's charities and medical research.

looks like 3 people won...and it wasn't me lol

Hey Jennifer there was a ticket sold in Kansas though that won!!

To answer though..I'd do lump sum but have it set up like Marie with a lawyer and financial adviser to set up trusts, pay off debt, fill up a savings account and 401k contributions, then allocate a monthly sum so we'd always have a flow of $$
