RQotD: Are you shy or outgoing
Your random question of the day: Do you consider yourself shy or outgoing, or somewhere in between?
I was shy, and I mean painfully shy growing up, but I've gotten more outgoing as I've gotten older. Still, I hate going to events where I don't know anyone, and I prefer a small number of close friends to a circle of more casual friends. So, I guess I still consider myself shy. You? |

I'm something in between - I'm say only because of my not so great English Last edited by LilachO; 08-27-2009 at 11:42 AM. |

I tend to be somewhere in between. I hate going to a party or social situation where I have to mingle with people I don't know. I would rather just sit at home.
But with my close friends...I tend to be a little loud and obnoxious.

I am totally shy... that's why I've always felt most comfortable with online forums and communities, because I get to be the real me!

I'm shy...even took a zero as a grade in English in grade 12 for not doing the public speaking project we had to do.

Somewhere in between. Probably more out-going than shy. But sometimes I'm quiet if I don't know you well.

I was PAINFULLY shy as a child and teen. I was a year younger than everyone in school, so I was usually the smallest, shortest, etc ... and it really affected my confidence (one reason why I never promote entering school early), but as soon as a I hit college at age 17, I came out of my shell and now most people would be shocked to hear I was once shy. Of course, there are still several situations where I am shy, but it doesn't take me too long to warm up. There are very few people I'm intimidated by. I was voted shyest in H.S. (among other things, lol).

I used to be very outgoing and involved into a lot of stuff... I was a corporate trainer for 10 years and thought of nothing standing in front of large crowds speaking.
But the older I get the shyer I am getting... I hate going to events that I don't know people. Even on forums I hold back... it has taken me a year to get "active" here... and I still feel awkward.

i voted outgoing. what? are you surprised? lol actually in real life i come off as chill but i'm always up for small talk with a nice stranger. matter of fact, i had a convo with a woman over ice cream toppings at the market yesterday. lol we were both trying to decide which sounded more delicious. *giggles* i embrace awkward situations with loads of strangers. come one, come all. i like to make new friends and i don't mind speaking in front of a crowd, etc.

I'm generally shy around new people, but once they get to know me, I am more outgoing.

In my younger years I was very very outgoing!! But as I've aged I've become more of an introvert but I wouldn't call my self shy.....I think that I've just come to realize that being "outgoing" is to tiring and I'd just rather be left alone!! I did however chose somewhere in between because with my family and friends I am still very "outgoing" but to the general public I probably apprear painfully shy!!!!

I have like major social anxiety issues ^_^ .. but like I was telling fizzster last night, I feel much better hwen my hair is pink- I dunno why, it just boosts my confidence and I can be my normal crazy outgoing self. but really.. on a normal day.. I'd rather sink into the ground than deal with people.

I was horribly, horribly shy growing up. I was the band geek who went to orchestra rehearsals every saturday morning, top that off with being the chubby kid...well, you all get the picture.
As I got older, I grew into myself. I bartended, and that totally started the whole "transformation." I tend to speak my mind to whoever wants to listen. I'm not a HUGE fan of being in a crowd where I'm the only one who doesn't know someone, but I'll make the most of the situation and make new friends.

I voted in between. I tend to have to "assess" people I don't know before I can be myself... so I come off as shy or whatever, but once I feel comfortable, I'm pretty outgoing

Awkward small talk is the worst though which makes it so tough in the military. We have so many "mandatory fun" events which are pretty much ALL awkward small talk with people you don't know, usually people my DH works with. Not exactly my idea of fun but I try to make the best of it at least. |

I am somewhat inbetween, more shy than outgoing. I too hate going places that I don't know people.

I'm incredibly shy. When Libby was in daycare and I'd see certain people every single day, I was still shy. I'm like that with Nate's friends, I'm like that dropping Libby off at preschool. Pretty much any situation, I am shy. *sigh* I'm more outgoing online...but still not overly so, I don't think.

I voted in between. When I was a wittle girl I was very outgoing, I sang and danced for everyone in sight. Then I hit that odd age like middle school age and I was shy as can be. Then we moved to Florida from PA and things were so different there and my self esteem changed and I was finally myself again...very outgoing and that lasted all through high school and into college. Then I moved back to Pittsgurgh and well, I like double or tripled my weight (ok, i'm going to cry now...) and although that outgoing person is inside of me still, I sorta hold back on a lot of my outgoingingness because of my weight. I mean, I'm still outgoing, but not AS outgoing as I was. Crap, I'm all depressed now. ugh.

I am riduculously shy and always have been. I have a few friends but they are girls I work with and don't really see outside of work, I hate going out and really don't like having to talk to people - even those I have known for years. I have a few friends that I have met through scrapping online who live in my area and we crop together but I am really quiet, I'm much better at listening.
I do believe that my shyness has affected my life, it's certainly why I am single still. Thank goodness for internet is all I can say |

I was extremely shy as a kid and have worked really hard on it over the years. By the time I was 18, I still couldn't speak to people I didn't know without forcing myself. I still have some issues and will freeze up and not speak a word, but now I can be very outgoing when I feel comfortable. I will still pretend not to see people if I run into them in public, even people I like.

Neither.
I have the capacity to be outgoing, but I am so incredibly insecure abt my looks/weight and general artsy-fartsy personality/sense of humor that I come across as painfully shy and awkward to other people. One day, I hope to get past walking into a room and instantly reverting to chunky stirrup-panted four-eyed buxom 7th grade LA. |

Is it too late for this one? I am def in the middle, if I know the people really well I am all out crazy but if it is people I just met or have only known for a short while I am usually mild mannered!!!
