show me sibling photo poses....

hi shutterbug mums/moms!

DS has been able to sit by himself for a few months and doesnt really wanna do this pose anymore ... " wah!...don't hold me!"

to more like this (side by side) which looks kinda odd to me


i managed to get them to sit back to back for a quick photo the other day (it's tiny & cropped here but u get the idea)


Got any other ideas for poses, esp. while one sibling is a baby??? Thanks in advance

My kids don't cooperate so I normally just use two separate photos of them.

mine don't either...hence never any pics together lol

I did hear a trick though if you put tape on the baby's fingers he'll play with it for a few mins so to speak to sit still (minus the hands) so it could be someting you try Call his name to have him look at you and hopefully the only moving you'll get will be his little fingers trying to get the tape off.

Yep, I've heard the tape thing. What about having DD lay on her tummy and putting DS on her back or right in front of her. Another we've done is you can have DD on her tummy propped on her elbows and then he sits right next to her??

Both laying on the ground and taking the photo from above might work. Never did for us, but I tried here.

I did a few round of shots where they were both on their tummies propped up on their elbows when DS was younger. I'm at work or I could post them. Now i just try to snap shots of them when they are actually lovin' on each other.

I had them both laying down for this one..but as you can see the pics aren't stellar lol...they're real though so I like them...



and we do a lot of these poses...

it's definately getting harder to get Ella to cooperate. Avery spends a lot of time smiling his fake smile at me while she wiggles all over the place..he sure is patient lol

I have a height problem with my girls, they are almost 4 years apart. Usually when i have them stand side by side, I ask the older one to bend her knees {just a little} and I've found that shooting from an angle can help as well.


This is one with two examples... the older looking down on the younger is a cute pose and then having the older kneel for one shot at least gave a different pose than always having her towering above her sister.


You can also use a prop for the younger one to sit on that would get their heads at a somewhat equal level, like this

The word "pose" just makes me laugh, because it implies that any of my 3 would sit still long enough for me to get them all ready for a photo. It's usually more a matter of, "Ooh--you're together and no one is crying. I hope I can grab my camera and manage a shot before that changes!" I have great photos of each of my kids alone, but the ones I have of any of them together stink on ice, to use one of DH's expressions.

Here are a few of the ones I've taken that worked with a sitting baby. None of them are great, but maybe your kids will be more cooperative than mine!

Action Shots


Together in a big chair (I've done these with the baby and one brother, but the one I came across first tonight is the 2 boys. With the baby I have a big brother put an arm around her.)


Laying on their tummies

Sitting in an older child's legs


We had a few done at Picture People recently that came out well. Lauren is crying so I can't get those uploaded right now, but one of the best ones was Lauren standing while Jason held her hands.

Okay, I'm back with the Picture People shots.

Jason is big enough to hold Lauren's hands, but when we did a similar shot a few years ago with Jason and Ben (when they were 1 and 3), they were facing each other and Jason had his arms wrapped under Ben's arms and around to his back to hold him up.


The expressions on this one didn't work, but the pose has possibilities.

i used to work for a childrens photography studio, so i have millions of photos of siblings together - none of which i can post due to privacy rules!

But some poses i would do with siblings around your kids age -
-get the older one to lie on her tummy and have bub sit (or lie) on her back (normally a good pose as its like a "horsey" ride so they find it fun) - angle the older child and have her cross her feet up in the air to get a full length shot for something different.
-have them both lie on their tummies, but have them so they are nose to nose - ie - they have to turn their heads to look at the camera (that way you dont get their feet in the shot and u can get in nice and close to their faces - its sometimes a good idea to get the older one to have her arm over the baby in this pose to get them closer together..just depends on how big your daughter is and how cooperative!
-put bub in something...i used to do alot of bucket/box/some sort of container! shots that keep a wriggly baby contained. - get the older child to straddle the bucket/box - make sure shes angled and not fully front on to the camera.
-back to back

i'd also stalk photography blogs/websites for ideas
