Default How much would you pay..... ?

Need your opinions- we are having our neighbor's teenage son come to our house while we are gone to check on the animals. He will probably only need to come over every other day and make sure the cat has food and water and then check on the hamsters. How much do you guys think I should pay him? We will be gone a total of 9 days so he will probably need to come 4 or 5 days.

Thanks!

I think I would pay $40. I don't know why but it was a number that popped into my head and seemed fair.

if he's not staying like, to play with the animals, then $30 or $40 is good. i think $20 is too little, and $50 is too much.

I paid $50 for one of the college kids at church to come over and take care of our cats while we were at the beach for a week. I thought it was more than reasonable, considering they drove over here to clean a litter box every day.

I think $40 is generous and fair especially given he is a neighbor and doesn't need to drive over.

So I talked with my mom who is having a guy drive quite a ways to their house TWICE a day to check on 5 animals (yes, 5 animals. they are nuts!) and he is charging them $288 for 8 days. I think Im going to pay him $20 since he really doesnt have to do much with the cat and probably nothing with the hamsters.

Are you going to have him change the cat box? if you are then I don't think $20 is enough, but that is just my personal opinion

if my calculations are right that is $18 a visit for the person charging your parents and if he is driving quite a ways{especially with the price of gas these days } I don't think that is bad at all even though it sounds like alot all at once LOL!

My son (9) gets paid $5.00 per day for feeding our neighbor's dog twice a day when she's gone.

So I've never given any $ to those who have watched our cats while we were out of town. But I've always asked friends? Maybe that's why?

I agree with this. The first number that I thought of was $40.

One of my best friends takes care of our dog when we need someone & I pay her. Usually $50 for the week. She lives right down the road & comes once a day.
Also, we keep a good friend of ours' dog when they go out of town & they pay us. She usually pays us $25 for the week, but we don't have to go anywhere, she actually stays with us.

I did the same when I was away for a week. I got one of my skating girls to come over and feed my cat once a day, plus do the litter box. So I say $50.

nope- not changing the litter box. And like I said he is coming every other day and just 1 time so a total of 4 times coming over to our house.

$5 per visit sounds fair, especially since there isn't much involved. If he was walking a dog and cleaning up after them, it would be worth more. I expect that he's only spending 10-15 minutes per visit, right?

Exactly. if he was doing more then I would pay more money but literally he will come in and give the cat food and water, check to make sure the hamsters are ok, and then leave. I think Im doing $25.
