my poor kitty
well my kitty, woody, is 20 years old. he had a rough weekend. he's drooling which probably means he has a tooth problem like an abcess. he's not eating much. he's stopped even cleaning his face - i think it hurts to move his tongue around much. dh is taking him to the vet. i am so afraid that this might be the beginning of the end.
the hard part is for years my boys loved him, but didn't pay him a lot of mind, but over the past month while they were sick with pneumonia they've really been almost obsessed with him. they spent their sick days laying on the couch with the cat and woody kept them company. this is going to be so hard for them. they are constantly talking to him, petting him, wondering where he is, etc. i'm trying to prepare them and they are already very sad. just a rough time overall. anyone know anything about older cats with dental problems? i know they don't like to give older cats anesthesia. |

oh, poor kitty... I hope it's nothing serious and that he will be right at rain in no time.

we went thru this a couple years ago with a dog. A teacher recommended this book (in dog version) and we read it over and over throughout the week and I really think it helped
It's always sad to lose a pet especially one of the first your children will remember. ((Hugs))

Awww...hope he's going to be ok. Maybe they can just pull the tooth that is giving him problems?

They might be able to extract it, but I'm not usre about anesthesia because he's so old.

So sorry about your cat!!! I hope they can do something to help him! If they can't so anesthesia, perhaps they can use a local to numb the pain and a muscle relaxer of some kind to keep him calm???

My sympathy on your kitty's illness Celeste. I hope the vet can help him. Watching a pet age is hard and knowing that their time with you is coming to a close is just heartbreaking. My kitty is 16 now and I can see her slowing down a lot these days.

Wow....20 years old is awesome. My oldest cat is only about 10, so I don't know what they'd do for an older cat like that. I have one that needs some dental cleaning (scaling) and I know even for that they want to put her under...especially if they need to extract it.
I'll be thinking of your poor kitty and your boys. My boys are all seriously attached to our cats (different boys with different cats), so I know how hard it must be for your boys. Hoping that they can do what they need to do without the anesthesia and he'll be ok! |

Oh Celeste, I'm so sorry. I hope he will be okay. I know what you are going through.. we lost my cat at 17 when Abby was little... I adored him.. luckily Abby doesn't remember him.. but ugh.. I'm so sorry.

Ohhh - it's so sad to lose a pet. I lost a dog last year due to heat stroke and it was very painful for my girls too. Hugs to you, sweetie.
