Question Altered canvas project help!

So I bought some plain wrapped canvases from Hobby Lobby to alter for my girls' bedroom. I'm going to paint them black and then would like to do kind of a collage of girly bits (I'm planning to use Melissa's Charge It and La's Girl Thing) and have them spell out LOVE. Their room is done in lt. pink, bright pink, zebra print, black & white.

Anyway, what kind of paper do you print stuff on for putting on the canvas? Is presentation paper too thick to lay nicely? And do you use modge podge to adhere everything? I've tried doing some searches online but haven't found any really good detailed explanations. I know some of you have done them so give me some tips or point me in the direction of a good tutorial!

I ended up doing a little googling and got them done. Just wanted to share the finished product.

I have done them different ways depending on the look I wanted. One way if you just want a single layer and want the canvas texture is to print on tissue paper and then mod podge it.

These look great! I bet the girls love them.

I gave the canvases a rough coat of black paint as a base and then I just sized stuff in PS and printed on presentation paper. I used my tearing tool to tear the larger blocks and adhered everything with modge podge. It worked pretty well - the sizing and printing took the longest of anything. LOL
