Default my poor old kitty

my 20 year old cat wasn't doing well and we took him to the vet. she thought it was an ulcer on his tongue (a sign of kidney failure), but he didn't respond to the antibiotics at all. he can't eat or drink at this point without a lot of assistance. we believe he has a tumor on the base of his tongue so he can't lap water or food up. he chomps and we've been syringing water into his mouth. i feel so bad for him, because in all other ways he's acting quite normal. he's frustrated about the drinking.

we're going to have to put him down tomorrow. my bil is a vet and he says that type of tumor is inoperable and woody is getting dehydrated. anyhow, i've been crying a lot today and my boys and dh are also really sad. it's so hard. we've had him our whole adult lives and the boys their whole lives. it's going to be so weird when he's not here anymore. hug your furbabies everyone!

I am so sorry Celeste!!! Saying goodbye to a pet is like saying goodbye to a *person* who was a part of your family. I still get tears remembering our doggie that we had to let go of in 2006.

So sorry that you will be losing your kitty. My oldest cat is only 8 years old and I can't imagine how I'll feel when he passes. Sending hugs.

:'( so sorry to hear about your poor kitty kitty. It's never easy to have to put them down. Give it some time, I know you can never replace the ones you loose but maybe in a few weeks or when you feel its the right time, you could go as a family and rescue another kitty and pick him/her out together. Hugs.

(((hugs))) That is so hard to go through, but he has lived a very long and happy life with you. You are gifting him one last dose of love by letting him out of his suffering. You'll cry...a lot...but it will get better. Furbabies are a part of the family, so take the time to mourn him. If you need to cry on someone's digi shoulder, you know we're around and we get the fact that they are not just pets...they are family members.

I'm so sorry. Having to have a pet put down is one of the most difficult things. I'm thinking about you and your family.

So Sorry - ... we have a senior cat as well - and he has had some health issues...almost lost him a few times. Our pets are family members - and they sure find a place in our hearts... hugs to you all

My sympathy Celeste. I will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers and you come to terms with this loss of your beloved kitty. How lucky you all were to have each other for 20 years.

I agree with this.... big {{{HUGS}}} Celeste.....I hate it when this happens to a pet....I know my DD's kitty is now almost 9 and we have had him as a kitten and I can't imagine how hard it is going to be one day when he isn't here anymore

Huge {{{HUGS}}}! I'm so very sorry you are having to go through this. I know how hard and heartbreaking this is. I just had to put my almost 12 yr. old German Shepherd to sleep last week.
Like Stacy said, give yourself time to grieve and know that if you need to talk or a shoulder to cry on we're all here and we understand.

I am sorry Celeste....saying goodbye to an animal is never fun, whether it's 20 years of 9 months (like we did last June).

((Hugs)) I know exactly what you are going through. We said good-bye to our beloved kitty Duke in September. It is really hard b/c I expect him to be at the door when I get home.

My first cat, Oliver, has been gone for almost 15 years and I STILL block the door with my foot at my parent's house...he loved to escape and as he got older we couldn't let him out anymore.

I'm thinking of you guys and sending prayers. ((Hugs))
