RIP my camera
I just died a little inside. After years of coveting other people's dSLR cameras, I finally got my own in June. A week later, sob, I dropped it. There isn't a service center on our island, so I had to wait until Joel went to Penang this week to take it in, and I just found out that fixing it is going to cost MORE THAN I PAID FOR IT.
The warranty isn't good because I threw away the box that had the code on it, plus the warranty doesn't cover personal stupidity. I am so upset. I can't believe that I paid that much money for a camera and now it's useless. I just needed to cry a little with some people who can really understand my pain.

So sorry Kellie! If it helps, I only have a P&S. I've never liked the idea of needing different lenses for different situations. I can do macro, zoom, etc. on my P&S without changing lenses (or paying for more). I love it.

You'll be rocking the P&S for a while then I guess! Now you make me wonder if there is a Nikon service center in Kuwait?!!! Sigh. The not so wonders of living overseas I guess. |

I am so sorry Kellie! I had the same sort of thing happen with my laptop, I had it for a few months, and Ava spilled water on...cost more to fix it than buy another laptop...so no laptop for me.

Oh no! I know how you feel because on the last day of school one year I went to wave goodbye to my dd as she was in the bus and stupidly used my hand that was holding my camera and it just flew right out of my hand and crashed on the sidewalk.
I burst into tears, so I totally got ya and I'm so sorry! |

Oh no, Kellie, I'm so sorry! I had sort of the same thing happening. I bought an expensive macro lens for my Nikon, a 65 mm, I was crazy about it. And then my baby pulled the camera when it was on the table. It fell and my lens was broken. Luckily my camera wasn't but I felt so bad about that lens! I feel your pain!

Obviously everyone here can relate to your pain I know I would be devasted if my baby got smashed. You didn't by any chance buy it with an American Express credit card? If you did, they have a 90 day insurance coverage on purchases for theft and accidental damage. If you used another credit card, maybe they have a similar program?

That's awful! Hugs!
Dh bought a clear filter for our DSLR and my camera has fallen 2x now over the last 5 years (both just bumped off a table or a coat hook, but at least both times inside a padded camera bag), and both times only the filter broke. But both times it felt like my stomach dropped out of my body. Good idea about the Credit Card protection though - you should check that out. |

Kellie I so feel your pain that's how I parted w/mine first my 50mm lens literally broke in half while swinging Mr Mason and then a couple days later my Canon said bye bye but I had dropped it quiet a few times so I was lucky in a way until then

This is the only reason why we buy stuff at Best Buy...we buy their additional accidental handling warranty....we had to use it TWICE on our P&S when our toddler got ahold of it. I would have died if it happened to my DSLR!!!!!

I'm so sorry! I don't know how homeowner's insurance works there, but it might be worth looking into whether it would be covered. Some accidental damage of personal goods is covered under ours.

I freaked and cried for weeks after only breaking the LCD screen. I was a full auto girl at the time anyways, so it didn't do much for picture taking (actually - it felt like using film again -- being pleasently surprised or completely irked when you got the pictures "developed").
SO -- I completely understand being upset! I would be devastated if I broke my camera that I have now (it's a new one - LDC works and everything, lol) - it took me forever to save to get it! |
