Default Can you scrap on a laptop?

We are buying a Mac (eeeek). We can't decide between an iMac or a Macbook pro. We want to make sure I can scrapbook since this will be our main computer.

So, do any of you scrap on a laptop? is it hard?

I scrap solely on my laptop and I use the touchpad too...I never use the mouse or a tablet.

I sit in the recliner with the laptop on my lap and scrap away.

Wow, so I'm not off in left field considering it. I hate that I can't scrap unless seated at the desktop upstairs. That room is now the baby's room so if he's napping (fat chance) I can't scrap.

Maybe we'll go with the Macbook pro. I'll need an external mouse but they sell those.

Anyone have a macbook pro?

I've never scrapped on anything else but a laptop. I'm on Windows (XP before, 7 now). No problem at all. The screen on the one before was 15'', now I'm on 17'' WUXGA (1900x1200 px - perfect for Photoshop, a bit problematic for the rest as everything's so small).

When I try to scrap on a desktop I can uncomfortable - i'm too used to sitting on the sofa and having my laptop in my, well, lap.

Ditto!
I scrap and work on my own scrapbook designs solely on my laptop. It's so much more comfy than sitting at a computer desk Plus, if I have to finish something up, I can sit with my kids on the couch while they're watching a movie and snuggle with them at the same time!

lol me too... in the big comfy recliner in the living room. It is awesome! I am on a regular laptop though, I have never ever used a mac. I also use an external mouse, I just find it easier.

I'm on a 15" MacBook Pro, and I LOVE it! I've never scrapped on anything else, actually. I have a Wireless Mighty Mouse, but I also take my lappy to the couch all the time and just use the track pad. I wouldn't go smaller than a 15" for scrapping, though.

I just switched to a lappy and it's been a bit of an adjustment but I'm getting used to it. So much more comfy/convenient than having to be at my desk all the time.

We have an iMac and a MacBook and you can totally scrap on the lappy but I wouldn't give up the giant screen of the iMac for nothin. I actually have my iMac on the coffee table and scrap/work on the couch too. haha. iMacs are highly portable.

I learned to scrap on laptops. Switching over to a desktop and mouse was HARD. However, after only a year using a mouse and my awesome big screen, I'd never switch back.

The big screen must be so great to work with... *sigh* But since there's actually no place to put a big screen in my apt, at least I'm spared a dilemna.

I actually scrap on both. When I use my laptop (Macbook Pro), I do hook up a mouse because I feel I have better control. Also, I just want to point out that I find it a little more difficult to scrap on the laptop, but I love my big screen on my iMac and got a little spoiled by it. LOL

i've got a 17" macbook pro and it's my main scrapping computer. i have an imac too - and used to scrap on it a lot - but it's an older computer (now 7 years old maybe ?!?) and i don't use it as often ... i'd love to get a new imac and use both for scrapping i do a LOT of scrapping in the car, on airplanes, etc - so i scrap using my touchpad ... i don't even like using a mouse anymore

I can't use a mouse when on the laptop, it doesn't feel right so everything is always with the laptop touchpad!

I made this same decision almost a year ago... I had a hard time deciding between the convenience of the laptop and the size of the iMac screen. We went with the iMac, and I love it! Having said that, I've never scrapped on a laptop, so I can't compare. I'm sure I would love it, too, for different reasons.

I've always scrapped on a laptop, but almost always at my desk so I can use my dual monitor set up with my 24" monitor too. I mostly like that I can take my laptop with me on vacation and scrap in the evenings, or in bed if I am not feeling well.

I also have to use my mouse. I just can't get used to touchpads.

I scrap and design on a 17" HP laptop, though sometimes I hook into my big monitor to design, but even then I'm still using the laptop as far as memory and processor are concerned.

Yikes, the macbook pro is quite expensive. The 13 inch is the same price as the 21.5 inch iMac. I'm not sure what we'll do but hearing you all, I love LOVE the idea of being able to scrap on the couch or in bed.

I've been scrapping on my MacBookPro using only the trackpad for three years now. Works great for me.

The nice thing about a laptop is if you want a bigger screen, you can always hook it up to an external monitor. That way you get the best of both worlds - the big screen when you need it and the portability of the laptop when you don't.

My laptop actually has a much better screen than my desktop, so it's not that difficult. :-) I took great care to think in terms of Photoshop-friendly when choosing a new laptop some years ago, and the screen was one of the key factors.

A laptop is all I scrap on. I use a mouse. Have a tablet and have heard that it is great to use instead of your mouse (for all lappie activities) but, never have tried using it that way.

I'm on a PC laptop, but I scrap exclusively on it. When I moved into my apartment, I couldn't get a laptop AND a desktop, and a laptop was a requirement for school, so I started scrapping on the laptop, and that's all I use.

I don't have a mouse or anything, just scrap using the touchpad. For me, it's JUST like scrapping on a desktop, but I may be the wrong person to ask, because I almost never use a desktop anymore.

It's way more convenient for me to scrap with my laptop and EHD because I can go anywhere to scrap. If I'm not feeling inspired at home, I'll head up to Borders for a few hours and set up camp there to scrap. Or, sometimes I'll work on a layout between ( cough during cough ) classes. I've even worked on layouts in the car while on a long trip (of course, no internet, but I already have my pics and kits ready, so who needs net?). With the laptop, I'm not tied down to a desk, which means when the mood hits me to scrap, I'm able to.

I used to have only a laptop that I hooked up to a widescreen on my desk. I did love the portability of having the laptop to scrap on but MUCH preferred when I was on my big widescreen at my desk. I hated trying to scrap on such a small screen.

I got a new computer and DH built me a new desktop computer and I have the most gorgeous 24" widescreen monitor to scrap on and I LOVE IT. I still have my old laptop but its so slow and frustrating to scrap on. Im debating getting another laptop but I dont think I would use it all that much so I cant justify the expense right now.

I design and scrap on my 27" imac and sometimes scrap and surf on our 13" macbook. I like both but since I use a tablet and 2 externals it is easier to use the desktop. I do enjoy sitting on the couch in the evenings and playing around on the laptop.

well... I'm super comfortable on my exercise ball in front of a desktop w/ huge monitor!!! I couldn't live w/o this monitor and I hate computer chairs so I got myself something comfortable... I prefer the exercise ball to my couch though lol... and well... we have no other furniture right now lol.

The only computer I have is a laptop. DH just bought me a new one (a HP Mobile workstation) on ebay. LOVE it.

I sit on the couch and cuddle with my kid when I scrap. I use a wireless mouse. Definately a wireless mouse.

When I first started I was using a laptop, but I have carpal tunnel so it really aggravated it. The ergonomics just didn't work for me. So I switched to a desktop and it's been much better for me. I can't imagine using a laptop now due to all the zooming in and out to everything. But that is probably because of my failing eyes LOL

so much happier scrapping on a laptop then on my desktop. I have a little lap desk thing that my laptop sits on with a little extra room for a mouse on it (mouse is cordless) and I scrap away It is so much easier to stay involved with everyone else in the house when I scrap on the laptop and I can take it with me if I have to go somewhere like my husband had an upper GI done and I took my laptop along. I dont know how I ever got along without my laptop!!

What's the price difference between the iMac and the Macbook pro? You might consider getting a desktop Mac and an PC laptop, depending on what your budget will allow. PC laptops are fairly inexpensive these days and significantly less expensive than Mac laptops. If you have an EHD that is formatted for both Mac and PC, you can store your kits on it. You don't even really have to move the EHD around. You should be able to access it wirelessly on the PC from your Mac.

As for scrapping on a laptop, it depends on how comfortable you are with a trackpad. You can get a wireless mouse if you prefer. Or attach a Bamboo tablet.

the price difference is only a hundred or so dollars. i did the same research at the beginning of last year. i ended up getting an iMac, which i use 99% of the time now.
