Default Mother's Day

I know many of you are moms, but what do you do for your mom on Mother's Day?

We have 3 moms (one each plus a step-mom) we do things for. I ordered a photobook for each, plus we send a gift basket/flowers to our far away moms, a card and something little to send through the mail. We take Wes' step-mom out now that we live close-by (dinner, mani-pedi's, massages that sort of thing).

I'm always looking for neat ideas to mail or for a fun day out with mom.

I only have the one... DH's mother died when he was 10 and FIL's wife - I can not stand and since DH doesn't call her his "step mom"... I only tolerate at family events.

So for my mom - all she wants is to spend time together... so I try to think of things we can do together... we go to garage sales, work out together, etc... I'm going to be in Charlotte on Mother's Day this year... she told me that Mother's Day is 'everyday'... haha...

My Mom and DH Mom have both passed. We do think of them on Mother's Day and shed a few tears among us!

My mom is getting a Vera Bradley purse. We love VB around here.

My MIL is getting a Willow Tree box. She has Alzheimer's so I struggled with what to get her, but her daughters are always buying her jewelry so I thought a box to hold it might be nice.

I am so. bad. about holidays! The past few years I just started reminding DH to order flowers to deliver to his mom. My mom usually gets a scrapbook album and necklace/jewelry of some kind. But last year I flaked and got her something dumb... I can't even remember what, it was that bad.

Um. We're the absolute worst. We don't really do anything. My family has never been big on holidays/gifts, so we mostly just don't do them. And, it was my mom that started that trend, so. . . . Hubby's siblings will sometimes go in together on something, but we usually rely on his sister to plan those kinds of things, so I don't know what's going on for this year.

Yeah. We're pathetic.

Add us to the pathetic club. My mother is far away, and my MIL passed away a few years ago. We always call my mother to wish her a Happy Mothers' Day, but it isn't a big gift occasion for us. My mother's birthday is a few weeks after Mothers' Day, so we tend to save the gift for that. And by "gift" I mean photobook, other photo gift, or promise of dinner out if we have plans to see them soon. And now I'm feeling very guilty and wondering what I should do for my mother last minute this year...

I'm visiting my Mother the week after mother's day. I'm not going to buy much, since us visiting is the big thing! We'll probably take her out to lunch of something.

Ditto. We phone our mothers and talk to them, but don't really do anything else. Neither of our families are that into gifts.

Mother's Day has always been about what my Mom is doing so the past couple of years I have changed that. I figure I'm a Mom now too so I need to start my own traditions with my kids. My Mom doesn't much care for that but oh well. I do usually send her flowers. This year I also got her a locket similar to the Origami Owl lockets. I hope she likes it and I hope it gets here in time.

My sister always takes a 'family hike' on mothers day with her 2 girls and hubbby. I'm hoping to start that tradition with my son too!

So is "family hike" code for "I'm doing what I want to do?" LOL!

We usually just go to visit my mom, and bring flowers. We're not big on gifts either.

My mom is very adamant that we don't spend money on her and she gets quite upset when we do. Every spring though I get her one new plant for her perennial garden. She can't see very well anymore (she developed macular degeneration quite young) but she still loves to plant flowers in her garden and she can see the different colors when she looks at her gardens and it gives her a lot of joy to be able to see the colors.

I feel like I should add that this year is different... my daughter graduates from high school on Mother's Day so I know we'll be seeing our moms so I need a gift ready to go. Most years I end up sending flowers or something lame.

For my mom and grandmother, we usually enjoy a meal together, and get something small with a card. For my MIL, we send flowers and a card. For me, I don't ask for anything - maybe just a Happy Mother's Day and an I love you lots! :P

I prefer small, low-key non gifting holidays, so this works.

My ILs live abt 15-20 minutes from us, so I usually 'force' my BIL and DH to cook lunch or dinner for MIL and me on Mothers' Day. I have DD make cards/drawings for MIL and my mom to send them in the mail. I make sure to call my mom on the actual day.

This year, however, I am due to have a baby at any moment, so while I don't usually see my mom on Mothers' Day, there is a good chance I will see her sometime this week or next. Doesn't the baby count as the ultimate Mothers' Day present?!

Oh man, I totally forgot about MD this year! <eek>

We'll probably send a GC to a restaurant so that FIL can take her out to eat since that's what she really loves doing.
