LOS ANGELES, Calif. --

Bryce Dallas Howard is joining the “Twilight” franchise.

The “Terminator Salvation” star will replace Rachelle Lefevre in the role of Victoria, according to Summit Entertainment, which produces the vampire film series based on the books by Stephenie Meyer.

“We are incredibly happy that Bryce has agreed to come into the franchise,” Erik Feig, Summit’s President of Worldwide Production and Acquisitions, said in a statement to Access Hollywood. “Rachelle brought ‘Victoria’ to great screen life and Bryce will bring a new dimension to the character. The franchise is lucky to have such a talented actress as Bryce coming in to fill the role.”

Summit said Rachelle would not be continuing on as Victoria, an evil vampire out for revenge over the death of her lover, due to scheduling conflicts.

Bryce, the daughter of director Ron Howard, will take over the role beginning in “Eclipse,” the third installment in the “Twilight” series.

“Eclipse” begins filming in Vancouver this coming August, Summit confirmed. The film will be released in theaters on June 30, 2010.

While I do like to see some consistency through a series, I don't think this is a big deal. They kinda look alike to me.

I truly dislike recasts, but in comparing pictures of these two, I can see why they picked her for the role.

I defenitely think Rachelle Lefevre is the better choice for the role. Im not sure how much of a role she will have though because I have only read the first and second books

I think there's got to be more to the story than what they are sharing on this recast. Rachelle was the perfect Victoria and I have a hard time believing it's really just a scheduling conflict when everyone knows they are filming the movies back to back. Eclipse would have been her biggest movie of the series since Victoria is such an integral part of the Eclipse storyline! Something just seems fishy to me on this....

I don't think that Victoria's a big enough role to get worked up over. And since neither of them are known to me, I don't really care either way.

I think Rachelle is a much better Victoria than the other girl. I've seen her in movies and I just don't like her that much. Victoria is a HUGE part in New Moon! I think they just wanted to have Victoria be someone with a bigger name than Rachelle.

I completely agree - I don't really know either actress, but the 3rd story is the biggest as far as the character is concerned, and they'll want as much assurance of box office $$$ as possible.

It doesn't bother me that much as long as the main actors and actresses don't change. But yeah, I have a hard time believing it was scheduling conflicts.

Eh I don't really care I guess, but one thing that always bothered me about Rachelle was her hair was more orange than fiery. Didn't really follow what I had in my mind for her (especially when she is out on the water etc) so I guess maybe that is why I'm OK with it.

ugh..recasts are so annoying, but it's not a huge issue for me. As long as Edward is the same (I am not even huge on Bella or Jacob LMBO!!!) I am good. lol

I thought the same thing about her hair. I pictured in more red when I was reading the books.
