Default what do you wish you could do?

I wish I could sew... I attempted to make my son's halloween costume this year and it almost did me in! I took home ec classes and learned how to sew in 7 and 8th grade - but haven't sewn since.. haha... it is one thing that I would like to do more...

how about you... what do you wish you knew how to do or do better?

I would LOVE to learn how to crochet or knit. I see all these awesome handmade hats/scarves/etc, and I'm so jealous that I don't even know where to start!

Me too, Rebecca! I wish I could sew! I got a machine and everything. AND something I really wish I could do that goes hand-in-hand with that is quilt. My grandma is the most amazing quilter and I really wish I had her skills.

Oh and fluently speak a foreign language. I took 3 years of French in high school, but there hasn't been much need for it in my daily life. Would love to learn either French or Spanish for real.

Honestly, I'd love to learn to scrap again. I really feel like I've completely forgotten how, hence only doing five pages all of last year.

I'm here to encourage you guys who want to learn to knit--I picked it up end of February last year and I love it!! Seriously, if I can knit, anyone can!! (As proof--even JP, who's 12, can knit pretty well. He hasn't done anything more than cast on and knit a few rows, but he can do it.)

If I can knit, ANYONE can! LOL Just check out my FB post from Sunday night and you'll know! I was fighting with needles, watching the tutorials 15-20 times, kids laughing their heads off at my attempts and flying needles. Finally, next day, I was able to knit whole 5 rows!

Seriously! If I ever go to France, about the only thing I have a hope of being able to communicate is asking where the library is. THAT is the one thing I remember. LOL

The only things I remember from my 2 years of French in high school are the dirty words the foreign exchange student taught us. Not super productive.

hahaha Sara! I remember when I was in French and I finally figured out what the song "voulez vous coucher avec moi ce soir" was saying. LOL (So I guess that's another thing I can add to my French-speaking repertoire.)

I want to learn to sew too. I have taken classes before (even took a quilting class) but I didnt keep at it and lost my skills. Plus I got this fancy schmancy machine from my mom and it really scares me. Need to get over that fear.

Photography- I want to learn to shoot in manual so bad but I swear its like math for me. I.JUST.DONT.GET.IT <sigh>

Ok 1, I want to learn to sew.

2, all of you that want to learn to crochet, youtube videos. Take it from someone that learned almost a year ago via youtube.

And I have made blankets, dozens of hats, scarves, even a robot for Cooper.

Well, you can't beat my Hungarian sentence - The cat is in the basket. That, along with a bunch of random words, is what's left from my pitiful efforts to self-teach myself Hungarian 20 years ago.

My Swedish sentence is - I learned Swedish for 3 years but I have forgotten everything. That's also a true sentence. Sad really.

And I can recite the Father's Prayer in Gothic. That's possibly the least useful one I ever learned (Gothic was spoken in the 7th century or something).

Oh, and I have a friend who knows the best sentence in Rumanian - I NEED A DESSERT.

Your knowledge is almost epic, Libby. Imagine this dialogue:

"Do you want to sleep with me?"

"Yes."

"Can we go to the library, then?" :-)))

I wish I could sing. I teach in a special school and we have a song for EVERYTHING in my class - put your coat, eat your dinner, stretch your arms, go to the bathroom, go swimming - you name it and I sing about it and I sound dreadful

Also knit, lots of people have tried to teach me and I even have a degree in textiles but sadly the only thing I can knit is a hole

Mostly I'd love to be able to do chit chat in real life, I'm a really quiet girl, if I have something to say then I say it but I am no good at filling in spaces and quiet times in conversations and I can't do chattering. I wish I could

what I want.. is to be able to make full rounded meals properly I'm still in the learning phase on cooking meats properly and i'm so so bad about putting together the whole thing. like what sides go with what meats, and you know making the meal more than here's a piece of chicken and here's a pile of plain white rice

Sing well for me, too. Sometimes I sound great and surprise everyone around including me. And sometimes it's such crap.

And my foreign language sentence is "I'm a good girl." in Italian. Also, "A boy carries a letter to Sudan." in Arabic. And the beginning of Cicero's speech against Catilina in Latin. Very useful.

my daughter took french and latin in highschool. She remembers very little. My son was taking American Sign Language. He said they were not really teaching them to speak or rather sign to communicate to begin with but teaching basic signs and the alphabet. I took one semester in middle school of spanish. I can remember colors/numbers/some weekdays & months/ a few bad words and some basic words for everyday things but defenitely not enough to speak to someone who is speaking spanish or understand them. My best friend's sister though took spanish in school and works as a translator for an insurance company I think she told me. She speaks it fluently. I think for some people language just comes easier. I think learning another language would be cool though. Id like to speak many different languages.

You all have already mentioned several items on my list, but here it is:

- Sew and knit
- Dance (like the girls on SYTYCD)
- Speak a foreign language fluently
- Do math in my head
- Have an eye for interior design (I seriously have no idea what looks good with what!)
- Become a real cook...the kind that knows how to make everything from scratch
- Be a professional photographer
- Roller skate
- Drive a stick
- Scuba dive
- Draw
- Whistle with my fingers

I want to.learn to sew, learn French and Icelandic, and how to build something from scratch, like a bookcase. My dad is anti girls with tools, so ive never done it.

To all of the ladies wanting to knit, I cant do it traditionally to save my life but have any of you looked into loom knitting
I do it all the time- its so much fun!

I can say "I'm doing well without you" and "my friend the tree is dead" in German... but that's about it.

The thing I want to learn to do is pretty doable. Knit, crochet, sew, quilt, cross stich, I can do all that. I have always been incredibly craft from a young age.

But I want to learn to play piano.

Piano lessons are a fairly mainstream thing. They don't cost much and don't take much time and there's no reason for me to be NOT doing it. I just have never done it.

Icelandic, yay! I always wanted to learn Icelandic, too. :-)

That one about the tree cracks me up. :-D I can't imagine the context. A fairy tale of sorts?

I can sew. When I got my first job out of college, I made all my own work clothes (dresses and skirts mostly) because it was cheaper. And if I had had girls, oh the little sundresses I would have made! But boys, eh, hard to sew anything for them. So I don't sew much anymore - the last thing I made were those aprons for my friends 2 years ago.

I used to crochet, but now I have no desire to make anything from yarn since it's just way too hot here to wear any of it.

Really, and truly, I would like to know how to fix plumbing problems. But the tools for any kind of trade like that are way too expensive.
