WWYD?
so here at school, i don't have a lot of friends. i pretty much kept to myself all of last year. i'm in NO way a social butterfly in real life. online? i'm slightly less shy. but when it comes to actual life? yeah, not so much.
i came back out here to buffalo (any fellow buffalo/rochester/wny SSD girls?). and my one good friend out here called me up and invited me to an anniversary party she's having for her parents on thursday. now, i've never met her parents. i've only ever met my friend's husband once. so pretty much, i'd only know my friend at this party. i'm going to go. it will be a good night out, i'll enjoy myself, i'm sure. but i don't know whether to bring a card or not. part of me is saying "make a card, it's the polite thing to do". but part of me is saying "it would be slightly weird to receive a card from someone you don't know". so. what would you do? |

I don't think I'd take a card if I didn't know the people. I would offer to bring a plate of food though, and definitely would congratulate the parents when I met them.

I guess I would probably bring a bottle of wine or flowers with a small card attached.

Yeah, I'd feel strange attending without a card. Make a nice one and keep it in your purse. You can decide if it's appropriate to give it to them once you get there.

I would make a card. Parent-types like that kind of thing. And I'm sure they wouldn't think you were weird.

I would take a card and give it to them if you feel comfortable enough to do so when you get there. If everyone else is giving them cards at the restaurant it would be more uncomfortable to not be prepared and have one.
And good for you that you are going! Sounds like a great opportunity to socialize and possibly meet some more people in the area while having some good company (your friend) while you are doing it.

okay. the box of stamps is out. my mom just called and asked if i'd make a card for her to give to someone. so the box is out (i don't know if it'll go back UNDER my bed... but oh well. i have to move it next week anyway).
i think i'm gonna make one and take it. just in case. i don't want to go empty handed, i think my grandmother would have my head if i did that. so i think i'm gonna make up a simple card and bring it. just in case. now to find my paper stash... it's under there somewhere. thanks for all the responses. i really do appreciate it. <3 |

Yeah, if you're going to a party in honor of someone, regardless of whether or not you know them personally, I'd definitely take a card. And making one would be all the more special!

I think it is a great idea to take a card. You can decide whether or not to give it once you are there. But at least you will have it if you want to give it. Have fun!
