Default How fast is your Internet?

Mine is an ancient DSL account with 6 mbps download, and 0.7 mbps upload. It takes forever to do anything!

I'm getting upgraded on Monday to 25 mbps download and 10 mbps upload and I am so excited! It will seem blazing fast in comparison!

Oh man, I don't know how you've stood it for that long! Waiting for downloads are so ANNOYING! We just moved and I was supposed to have the same internet speed, 50 mbps, as in our old place but there is NO WAY this is the same speed. It's making me absolutely crazy! Even our phones and the iPad are slow. Grrr. I need to make a phone call!

Janelle, 50 mbps is incredible! I can get that -- but it would be an additional $75/mos. Grr.

Vanessa and Kristin - Ours are similar... I use BackBlaze for my remote back-up and it takes f.o.r.e.v.e.r. because of my slow upload speed. And downloading kits takes some time too. I don't even bother purchasing movies online because the download time would be entirely too painful. Netflix streams reasonably well though -- but only one person can use it in the house at a time.

We can't get much faster in our area, I wish we could. Maybe one day!

Ours is at 15kbps download and 10kbps upload. We should be upgrading to a faster one once we renew our contract.

I have the fasted available in our area- 5.86 mbps download, and 1 mbps upload... The sad thing? This is way faster than what I had last year!

And yes, my picture uploads take forever... but Netflix works thank goodness.

lol, I have no idea?? We allegedly have Comcast/Xfinity's fastest plan ... whatever that means. I'm not super impressed.

... just looked it up, Comcast advertises my download speed as "up to 50 mbps" ... however, when I took the test, I got a value of 4.20 mbps for download and 6.02 mbps for upload --- not quite as fast advertised

Just took the speedtest, 31 Mbps download, 2 Mbps up. We have our internet through cable services, and it's SO much faster than our old DSL.

Just did the test on mine:
28.86 down and 5.84 up.

Not bad. My computer's running a little slow lately, so it might be a little faster than that if my computer were cooperating.

I need to check mine. Australian speeds are appalling and we pay through the nose too! Will test and see. I'm interested to know.

Upload - .32mps

Wow, really Heddy? That much extra?? We have the blast internet from Comcast and I only pay $47 per month. I don't know who your provider is, but if you call, and are KIND, I bet you could get that price dropped significantly!

Download is 6.36 mbps and upload is 11.31. This is helpful to know! I think I'll check it periodically for the next few days and see if it's consistent. Then I can decide if I need to be making phone calls!

Same here too... and let's not get started on monthly download limits!! My husband (who knows way more about all things IT than me) tells me some parts of the world don't have download limits. Not fair!!

I know Someone online couldn't believe it when I told them we have limits. Ours is 100gig and I've never come close, but unfortunately to get that lightning fast speed I'm on (haha) we have to pay for a premium plan.

Did the test and it's about 5mb download and 1mb upload... much slower than I thought as we're with Google Fiber. Oh well. It's free (the landlord pays for it) so I can't complain.

I think we have 100GB allowance per month too - 50 peak/50 off peak, and crap speeds (about 5-6 mbps download, less than 1mbps upload). And that is the fastest physically possible in our area until we get the fibre optic cables to our house with the new National Broadband Network - and in my area that is years away!!

I'm not sure whether we pay a premium plan - its all bundled with the phone/fax. The internet component is about $70/mth.

I'm in Canada. Unlimited Internet is an option, but in many markets (it's a, umm, big country, lol!) it's not available, especially in rural areas. Even the Big Telecoms generally offer capped plans, unless you get super-premium packages or bundle all of your services together (Internet + TV + phone) with one company.

We loathe our internet provider - we pay to have the fastest in the area - up to 50mbps, but lucky if we even reach 22mbps up. And every year they jack up the price and hubby does his favorite thing in the world... calls and threaten to drop them and we get the price back down...

I tested last night and I was around 8 mpbs down and 1 up. However, at that time I'm pretty sure I had at least one child streaming and I think my Backblaze was updating. I just tested this morning while I'm the only one awake and got 16 down and 7 up. I generally feel like mine is fast enough for me. I've never thought it was slow unless it was during a Backblaze update or security is updating.

DL 3.3
UL 0.86

Last year I was with a different company paying £50 a MONTH for supposedly 40mbps internet and never got more than 5, not sure if it's my location but I went with a different company with a cheaper plan and I get around the same now while saving £25 a month!!

Even though my speeds are pretty crappy it doesn't take too long to download things!

Thank God we live in a Fios area and we get 35 down and 15 up. I don't necessarily require those speeds, but the live gamers in the house insist on it lol.

currently 6.5 down and 4.8 up but it's 11am on a Wednesday morning & the heavy users on my local tower on the ISPs network are not home. I get about 4 and 1ish between 5p and midnight. I think the advertised max download speed in my area of the network is only 10.

I have wireless broadband from a local company and had to have a 50ft pole put on my property just to be able to pick up their signal. And we have data limits too. I think ours is 100GB. We've never some close despite my husband power watching old shows on Netflix & Amazon all the time.

It's better than Hughesnet which is my only other option.

Not very fast!! Currently 2.17 up and 0.45 down. And forget trying to do two things at once - I was watching Netflix, but had to pause it to be able to download a ct kit Unfortunately it's the best we can get in our area, and we at least have unlimited internet - which is a recent development round here!

Just tested, and our Fios speed is 15 Mbps down and 5 Mbps up. We can have 2 people using Netflix and others still able to use the Internet, so it's good enough for us. I feel like we pay way too much for it, but there doesn't seem to be a better option. All the providers want to bundle services, and our experience has been that if we refuse to tie tv to the bundle (DH has DirectTV and won't switch) we can't get good internet or internet/phone rates.

Husband cut our cable out so I lost my fast internet. Now we have Dish for tv and UVerse for internet. Only problem is that it's not "real" u-verse. Its some sort of DSL line so the max is 6 down and .7 up. And for some reason my outside lines/cables/wires in the area aren't that great so I have direct phone numbers to 3 different techs and 2 supervisors to call out when my internet goes down. After about 3 weeks of constantly calling, 2 senior techs seemed to have cleaned things up.

Been on fibre for a year now and it's really nice.

I did the test twice, in the evening it was 30 up, 30 down, now in the morning it's 41 up, 46 down. Being me, I can't remember how much it should be, but I think 50.

Got fibre yesterday! It is faster for sure. Not quite what I thought though -- it's actually 15 mbps download and 10 upload. (Apparently, my fibre tv uses 10 mbps download which was not very evident in the marketing materials.)

70.78 down, 22 up - that's the fastest package offered by my cable provider. I didn't realize how fast it was until I was at my sister's last week, and hers was SO much slower, even though she's on AT&T.

I only have Comcast's performance package, which states download speeds of 25Mbps. However I average 39 Mbps download, so I'm happy with that.

Download 0.1 mbps
Upload0.14 mbps

The worst part is that it works in waves and quits in waves. We try to stream music through our Sonos system and it only works half of the time.

These are bad numbers right? Like we should be calling the provider to complain?

We've got Fios... DH works for Verizon, so we get a discount, and I think our speeds are regularly higher than we purchase. Sometimes, I surprised how fast I can DL/UL. We pay for 50/50, but I think we get 75/75. They over over 150/150 in our area - crazy fast!

...I want to cry. We are at 3Mbps. Which is average 'round these parts.

A photographer friend of mine pays premium for--wait for it--10Mbps.

When the hubs and I were vacationing in Bangkok, we enjoyed 30Mbps in our hotel. It was heaven to stream videos!
