Default March 2021: Passport FAQ

If you have any questions regarding THIS month's Passport challenges, please post them here.

We have a wonderful team and community here at SSD....
so someone is sure to get back to you ASAP with answers to anything and everything related to our Passport Challenge System!

Here is a list of this month's challenge prompts for easy reference:

#1. One Little Word : Kismet
You can use this word as/in your title work, within your journaling, or simply let it inspire the direction of your layout.

#2. Product : Favorite SSD Alphabets
Use a favorite SSD alphabet on your page. Can be either a solo alphabet or one available in a kit/bundle.

#3. Featured : Alice + Ru
Our brand new series of Featured Designer freebies are here for 2021, and we can’t wait for these fun kits to inspire you! Thanks to a suggestion from community member, Lisa aka Armygrl, our theme this year is focused on all of those special days that make up our sweet memories. From Rainy Days to Ordinary Days, A Day at the Zoo or even a Kinda Nice Day like Erica’s first kit in the series, we can’t wait for you to get your hands on these beauties! Taking inspiration from these fun kits, each month we’ll be asking you to scrap a page focused on the kind of day our designers are celebrating in their featured designer freebies! You’re welcome to use the kit itself, or simply scrap a page inspired by the title, but get creative and let your imagination take the lead.

#4. Inspired By : Rainbows
Be inspired by these wonderfully fun use of rainbows.

#5. Dealers Choice : Color Swatch
Scrap with this month’s color swatch.
It should be obvious that the page you've created was inspired by the colors featured in the swatch image posted below.
** You don’t necessarily have to use all of the colors shown [use 2, or 3, or all 5] **

#6. Leaving Love :
Leave love on 15 layouts in the gallery and then post the link to each in your tracker thread.
Create your own place marker by using your favorite layout you've left love for during the month to "hold" that spot on your card ♥
Right click on a page in the gallery and save... follow by resizing this saved image to 97 X 97 before adding it to your Passport tracker image.

#7. Photography : Partially Colored B/W
Partially color your favoirte black and white photograph(s).
If you need additional help check out our colorizing tutorial.

#8. So Sketchy : Monthly Inspiration!
Use the following sketch as inspiration for your layout.

#9. Seasonal : Spring Equinox (Start of Spring)
Scrap a page that celebrates the beginning of spring... or new beginnings.

#10. Typography : Lucky Turns Font
Download font and use it on your layout.

#11. Wild Card : Scrap anything you'd like for this challenge ♥

#12. Composition : White Space
Creatively use negative space as a critical key to the design of your layout.

#13. Journal : Prosperity
Journal about all the ways your life has been touched by prosperity.

#14. Currently : Binging on....

#15. List : Photo List
Create a layout which uses a “list” of smaller numbered photos which correspond to captions or journaling.

#16. Pop Culture : Lucky Symbols
There are an abundance of symbols associated with luck. Scrap a page that celebrates your interpretation of luck.

#17. Details : Curling Photo Edges
Have some fun playing with shadows and create the effect of curling the edge of your photos.

#18. Scraplift : Hosted on the Blog
On the first Sunday of each month, Sugarbabe Kim E. will host an inspiring Scraplift Challenge on the SSD Blog.
You have the entire month to play along and complete your page.

To keep in mind while you're scrapping...
These prompts are written and created with fairly broad themes/concepts in mind and I think that personal interpretation is key. You can certainly approach a prompt literally, or I encourage you to think about it in a different way ... take a creative approach on ways to apply prompts so that they'll work for you and your family.

Just checking if my google investigation is working, since I don't know the word kismet. Am I correct that it means something along the line of fate or destiny?

I had to look it up as well and I found the same definition as well as it being used to refer to something that one believes was “meant to be”

I also found the same definition. I'm glad I wasn't the only one to have to look that up!

By the way Loni, I've noticed for a while now but the numbers used in the passport are no longer in the store. First Day Jitters by LJS is now retired.

I always struggle with the color swatch and since we can't search by color anymore can the designers suggest some kits that match the color swatch <3

I'm not a designer, but I have my supplies keyworded by color - hopefully these will help:

(both greens and the light neutral)

(dark green, blue, and the two neutrals)

Em of the Nifty Pixel had a kit coming up this weekend that will match perfectly for the color swatch.

Count me among those who didn't know what kismet is! And English is my first language, so I can't blame it on that!

I'm trying to find out who created the inspiration LO with the stitched heart, filled in with shamrocks with various papers clipped to them. I LOVE this design and I'm scrap lifting it, so I want to be able to credit appropriately.

Keep it simple. What in your life do you feel was "meant to be"? That coffee at the end of a long day? Meeting your husband/partner? Making friends with someone? Finding/choosing your pet? Finding that last chocolate bar hiding in the fridge? Can be a funny take on it, or serious. Totally up to you.

This is my first month to participate in this - so forgive my rube-ness...

The #3 featured designers - and something about the 2021 freebies and the moments they inspire... I need some help tracking those down. The name links take us to their overall store. Or am I just supposed to create a page / couple of pages using those particular designers designs?

Thanks for your help and patience!

Alice and Ru are the two featured designers this month. Alice is the current one and Ru won't be along for another couple of weeks, I think.
Alice, Red Ivy Design, has a free with $10 purchase kit right now called A Waiting for the Sun Kind of a Day.
So, you can use that kit if you've received it. Or you can do a layout related to the theme of waiting for the sun. Or sunshine. Or something along those lines.

Hope that helps!

Thank you! That helps so much - so the Free With Purchase freebies. Gotcha.

Annnnd I've had a kit in my basket for awhile that I've been on the fence about, this lil tidbit pushed me over! I mean - FWP! Free is one of my fave food groups!

Thanks again, Charlene.

You’re welcome! I guess I should have mentioned that you could wait until Ru’s feature comes along to see what her theme is. The 2nd featured designer comes kind of late in the month for me, though. As far as the Passport challenge goes, that is.

There's a new featured designer every two weeks.
Hope that helps.
