Default Which antivirus program do you use???

I currently have Norton as it came free with my PC when we bought it last year, but it will cost $80 to renew it. I got an email from CA saying I could be protected for a mere $20. Money is tight so $20 sounds much better to me, but I don't want to be cheap and then risk my PC security. So what do you use??

ETA:
After searching and searching I went with BitDefender, loved the price and got it for 2-3 PCs with 20% off and this site rated it #1: http://anti-virus-softwareeview.toptenreviews.com/

Jami, AVG is free and a good one. I used it for a bit and I had less problems while using that than I ever did with McAffee or Nortons. I'm back on Norton's now but still, I had no problem with the free one.

I just ended up renewing the Norton's, even though I hated the $$$$. I just felt more secure with it.

I've had McAfee for years and never had a problem. I think it's more like $35-$40? Or at least it used to be, I haven't checked and it just automatically renews. And now Cox's security set comes with it so I think I'll get it free next time I have to renew.

Norton comes with 3 liscenses. You might check with friends/family and see if they have used them all or plan on using them. Maybe they'll just let you have it, or you could pay them 20 bucks or something...

I was using the free AVG too, and it didn't stop this vicious little worm virus from destroying everything on my computer. So the computer repair guy installed ESET NOD32 on here and it seems to be working wonderfully. Time will tell, though - but I googled it and it has great reviews. I'm not taking any chances with pc security anymore.

Another nod for AVG free. I've used both McAfee and Norton in the past, and both caused more problems than they stopped.

One program that I'd be willing to pay for is TrendMicro's Internet Security. I really love that program! It's less spendy than Norton too.

Honestly, I hate Norton...I've had it on my other computers and something always went wrong and screwed up my system. Our ISP (Cox) offers McAfee for free, so I've gone with that since getting this computer, and haven't had a problem since.

I've had CA (Computer Associates) for 8 years and never had any issues with it. My new laptop came with McAfee (which has also had no problems) but when the 12 months is up I'll put CA on my laptop as well because CA comes with 3 licences.

Bernadette

PS. I've had lots of friends use Norton's and have had problems with it clashing with other programs - most have stopped using it for this reason.

Currently our laptop is without antivirus, we don't connect it to the interent so this is good to know so we can protect! We used CA a few years ago when we got it for free through the Air Force.

Norton's is evil. I use Avast. It's free, but you do have to register it every year, they give you a registration key in your email.

I use Webroot antivirus with antispyware...have been using it close to a month...my 20 yo ds REALLY REALLY LIKES it compared to trendmicro that we used to have. He said trendmicro was a resource hog and slowed down his gaming...but he really likes webroot. Nice thing is it comes in individual license or one for THREE computers for just a bit more $ ... we have 3 COPIES of this software because we have so many computers here for home and school.

We had a lot of problems with conflicts with Norton in the past so we left them...

I've been really happy with webroot and how it doesn't BUG me like trendmicro did to scan all the time...but it can do it in the background without bothering me.

I'm with the majority- AVG Free by Grisoft. A local radio computer talk show recommends it....helpmerick.com out of Grand Junction, CO. I think the upgraded version of this with more security features is $40 for two years. Saw it was sold in a couple Walmart stores in my area.

I use the Free AVG too. All the IT guys I worked with at my old job used it so I figure it's got to be OK!

My ISP recommends Clam Win or AVG Free. I use AVG and run Malwarebytes Anti Malware every so often. So far it's only found one thing that got by AVG

We have Trend Micro. No viruses, or hacks that I know of, but a Complete and Total Resource Hog. Very annoying program. Have made DH promise not to let me autoenew, but make me do my homework and find us a better security suite.

I use AVG's free program and I LOVE IT!!! I had used the devil (Norton) for years and years and years I finally just got fed up with them and deleted it from my computer and went and downloaded AVG!!! I've been using it for almost a year and I love it....I've never gotten a virus yet!!!

Norton was just getting was to intrusive and it was like I couldn't even start my computer up with out Norton butting it's nose in there and SLOWING everything down!!!! The last time I started my computer up with Norton it took almost 5 minutes after I uninstalled every thing and installed AVG and started my computer up it took 45 seconds....YES 45 seconds!!!

I'd recommend AVG to anyone that asked!!!!

I have used Trend Micro but for the past year or so and through to Jan 2010 I am using Microsoft Onecare, though I have heard they will be discontinuing it so I will probably change to AVG
