Random Food Question
When you make chili (if you make it) what is your preference?

I answered that we don't eat it in my house. I like it well enough, without beans, but it gives me horrible heartburn, so I don't ever make it or eat it.

both beans and meat in my chili... and another hot topic debate... I grew up with noodles in my chili... now I don't have noodles in it.

I used to make it with both meat and beans and serve it over rice in a bowl but now I eat low carb so no beans and rice for me. I put a few kinds of meat in, more spice and more veggies than I used to. So, really it not even chili anymore, its more like a saucy meat dish with lots of veggies.

I've never seen noodles in chili! What kind of noodles do you use?

We eat chili once a month, however the last time I had chili I landed in the hospital with an emergency appendectomy. So it will be quite some time before I make chili again!

My chili always has both meat and beans and depending on my mood I sometimes make noodles for it or rice. Most of the time it's just the chili with some cheese and sour cream. This is what Cincinnati chili looks like

In Wisconsin is usually is elbow macaroni. We usually then put in crushed saltines and then cover with cheese (because we need the added calories and fat... haha). Now that I'm older, I love to put sour cream and chopped onions on top.

This article is pretty accurate about chili in Wisconsin... and yes, I put celery in my chili... and yes, it's pretty watered down... that is how I grew up - now I use tomato sauce vs. juice.

Hamburger, onion, garlic, spices, red kidney beans, diced tomatoes, beef broth/stock, water.
NO starches. |

haha- yes, there is a pretty fine line between WI chili and Goulash... I think the only difference is that our goulash had canned peas in it.

I voted no chili. None of us really like it that much. (If we did eat it, I'd make bean only for me [vegetarian] and meat and beans for the kids.)

I don't have the recipe right now, but I usually wing it a little anyway. We use meat, red kidney beans, beef broth, onion, canned tomato, garlic, chili powder, cumin, paprika, a dash of cayenne, cocoa powder, beer, salt and pepper to taste... served with shredded cheese and/or sour cream... no starch!

I like meat and beans.
If I make the kids chili dogs, I buy the canned chili without beans because the boy child doesn't care for beans in anything. He will eat refried beans, though, since they are smushed. He's weird. lol

I don't make chili at home because I'm the only one who eats it. When I do eat it, I want both meat & beans.
I've never thought to add pasta. That's an interesting idea.

In my family pasta is usually a vegetarian meal. I grew up in a house with some vegetarians and some meat eaters and as an adult am in that situation again. (I was one of the meat eaters as a kid but the vegetarian now.) There aren't that many meals that everyone can eat in a mixed vegetarian/meat eater household, so pasta is always served without meat.

In the PNW, I've never encountered chili served without beans (I know it exists, but it's not offered in restaurants). I make it with meat (beef, chicken or turkey) and a multitude of beans (kidney, navy, white, black ... even garbanzos). The only vegetables are tomatoes and green pepper. Sometimes I'll make rice for my hubby and the boys. I love mine with cheese, fritos/tortilla chips and avocado.
What other kinds of vegetables do people use?

I like meat and beans, but my boyfriend doesn't like beans.
So if I want chili (and believe me I do!) it's meat only.

I love my chili to have all sorts of beans. Kidney, black, chickpeas and corn. And ground beef.

Your chili sounds like mine, I normally do tomatoes, onion, peppers for my veggies but Reba said she puts celery in hers. It makes sense to me since celery is basically a staple for most cooking lol

I've seen it on menus here. I've never actually had it or even made it at home but I do know that Americans eat it.
