Default Favorite Life Lessons

This month's Passport square #5-List is favorite life lessons. It made me curious. I know I'll see your LOs, and am looking forward to them. But, sometimes journaling is hard to read.

What would you say your favorite life lesson(s) is/are? And, at what age did you learn it/them??

Don't smoke! Unfortunately I didn't learn that until later. I now have breathing problems sometimes.

That's a great one, Lynn! I'm sorry you have breathing problems.
I only smoked from about 15-18, but always warned my kids about it. My middle son didn't listen, and already has breathing problems!!

Im having trouble with this one so I am glad I could maybe see some examples lol

One big life lesson was credit. My mom had terrible credit and never taught me anything about it. Fast forward to an adult learning hard lessons. Now my kids know all about the sacredness of good credit lol. My eldest's credit score is like a source of pride for me now haha

I used this "Rules for My Daughter" post that I found forever ago on FB, but loved it. I had saved it for a rainy day= worked perfect for this challenge- my layout is in the gallery here- but here's the journaling:
1. Don’t knock it ’til you try it.
2. Send Thank You cards for every act of hospitality — except another Thank You card.
3. Travel light through life. Keep only what you need.
4. Put cinnamon in your coffee, and twice as much when you miss me.
5. It’s okay to cry when you’re hurt. It’s also okay to smash things; but, wash your face, clean your mess, and get up off the floor when you’re done. You don’t belong down there.
6. If you’re going to curse, be clever. If you’re going to curse in public, know your audience.
7. Seek out the people and places that resonate with your soul.
8. Just because you can doesn’t mean you should.
9. 5-second rule. It’s just dirt. There are worse things in a fast food cheeseburger.
10. Happiness is not a permanent state. Wholeness is. Don’t confuse these.
11. If you’re staying more than one night, unpack your bag.
12. Never walk through an alley.
13. Be less sugar, more spice, and only as nice as you’re able to without compromising yourself.
14. Can’t is a cop-out. Don’t want to is perfectly acceptable.
15. Hold your heroes to a high standard. Be your own hero.
16. If you can’t smile with your eyes, don’t smile. Insincerity is nothing to aspire to.
17. Never lie to yourself.
18. Your body, your rules.
19. If you have an opinion, you better know why.
20. Study your curiosities and practice your passions.
21. Ask for what you want.
22. Wish on stars and dandelions, then get to work.
23. Don’t skimp on good sheets.
24. Fall in love often. Particularly with ideas, art, music, literature, food and far-off places.
25. Fall hard and forever in love with nothing but yourself.
26. Say Please, Thank You, and Pardon Me, whenever the situation warrants it.
27. Reserve I’m sorry for when you truly are.
28. Naps are for grown-ups, too.
29. Question everything except your own intuition.
30. You have enough. You are enough.

I don't know about favorite but most true is "When people tell you who they are, believe them." I think it is sometimes attributed to Oprah or Maya Angelou.

I have always found it to be true and wish I would have listened to people telling me what kind of person they were so I could have avoided a lot of heartache down the road.

Oh, that is a really good one, LeeAndra! Listening to what people say, and what our "inner voice" tells us is so important.
I agree that I don't think I would say "favorite" either... maybe most important?

I could name so many....smoking, credit...those all used to apply to me too.

But today I'll pick "letting go of anger". When I was younger I had so much pent up frustration and anger at some family members and friends for things that hurt me but somewhere in my late 40's I started to realize that the anger only hurt me by holding into it and once I could let it go, it not have any hold over me, it stopped meaning so much and wasn't in my thoughts anymore. I don't let things bother me much anymore. If anything is toxic to me I deal with it as I need to, then move on. I surround myself with good thoughts, good people and try to live as good a life as I can and don't let others bother me (much).

This one hadn't crossed my mind, Rae, but it's so true! I think it affects so many other areas of our lives, too.

Oh, definitely, Kiana!! Why is that so hard to do?? I'm glad you're working on it!

The one that I have always lived by is "Happiness is a choice."

I choose to be happy every day and usually am.

Everyone has regrets, it's ok to accept them and move on -- on some level I've always known this, but it's still a bit hard to completely embrace.

I am similar to Sheri. Ever since I was young I always have this one on my mind:
'Never regret, but learn from your mistakes.'

This is so true, Sheri!! I tend to beat myself up with regrets. Way before "Frozen" came out, I would sing "let it go, let it go, let it go" to the tune of "Let it snow". LOL!
