Default Paycheck surprises can be good!

Over the past couple of years we've had some nasty surprises on DH's monthy pay but for once we got a wonderful surprise of an additional 2000 euros.

DH doesn't get paid overtime the way you do in the US. If he works overtime then he gets an equal amount in vacation time. If he doesn't use the overtime vacation then it gets paid out in March of the next year. He gets 5 weeks paid vacation per year and I KNOW for a fact he took 6 weeks full, 1 week last April, 4 weeks for our wedding/honeymoon trip and 1 week vacation at Christmas plus some extra days here and there so I wasn't expecting any payout this year. So once you figure in the taxes they take out he apparently still had over 1 month's worth of vacation time. So yeah, I'm doing a big ole happy dance right now. I've decided I get to break my spending freeze, just this once.

Don't I know it! I just wish they din't take 52% for taxes because then it would have been more than double that. LOL

I think even more than one month of vacation, because paying this out means you have to pay extra taxes.

Actually yes, it's about 1.5 months but DH is in the highest tax bracket here so they can't take anymore than 52%

Gotta love those kinds of surprises, huh? I'm still waiting on his pay statement to arrive so I know exactly where the extra came from. LOL
