Facebook is really popular here - everyone is on it - all the time!!

I have a profile set up and I have a group for my business - The Paper Boutique.

Facebook groups are basically a way for lots of people, with common interests, to stay connected. People use them for all different kinds of reasons.

I'm under Leah Ryden if you wanna take a peek.

I am somewhat confused . . . if we are all connecting here what is the purpose of Facebook?

I have to agree with Mimi. I think it's a bit redundant.

Admittedly, I don't use Facebook, MySpace, etc. and have no intention of ever starting, so I'm not bubbling over with enthusiasm in the first place. Still, I question the value of repeating SSD in Facebook when everyone already gathers here. If you post something at SSD Facebook, will you also post it here? I think it would ultimately end up spreading things too thin.

I love Facebook. I was hesitant at first too, but my sister convinced me of it. I've totally reconnected with friends from HS and college, so I think it is grand. And it's not really a message board/forum, so you wouldn't use it that same as the boards here.

I think some of you are really getting worried for nothing. I've been a user of Facebook for a couple of years now and the only real purpose of the groups is just another fun way of sharing your interests. Think of it as a Facebook fan blinkie. Even the clubs I was part of in college didn't use their pages for information other than general info for those that maybe weren't part of the club but would like to be. Really, it's just a fun place to connect with others and share a bit about you.

i'm not worried about it. I just don't *get* it . . . I had an account for awhile but I still didn't understand it . . . I think I am too antisocial for it

EXACTLY!

Facebook is just another way that some people do it. But if you already have a great community, tight-knit group and lots of fun, there's really no need for anything else.

The only thing that I could really see as beneficial is that it will draw more attention to the digital scrapbooking world and it can be good advertisement as there are hundreds of thousands of users.

I belong to the DST and the SBB facebook groups. Personally, the only thing really beneficial (besides learning more about "friends" that belong to the same groups) is for newsletter postings, and fun games that I may have missed otherwise. I tend to forget newsletters in my email, but if I get in it my inbox at facebook, I am more likely to look, since you never know who the inbox message is from until you open the inbox. lol I am always looking for messages from friends. hehehe

I don't see it taking away ANYTHING from this tight group here at SSD. I mean, you don't have to go out and join facebook, but for those of us that are on it, it's a neat additional way to connect with each other!!

BTW, if anyone wants to add me, you can find me by searching for Sonja Nakken (no network).

Facebook is a lot different than a message board, there really isn't posting like this. For me, my Facebook is more about my life, than it is about scrapping, though I did add some pages for my friends to see, whereas SSD is well, all about scrapping LOL. I have reconnected with people I have lost contact with and really did miss from high school and childhood. I have a lot of fun there!

The only reason *I* want a group is to acquire status, lol.

I have a Facebook page. I'm always a bit amused by the idea of reconnecting with people I went to high school with. No one I went to high school with is on facebook. Several of their high school aged children appear to be though. I keep thinking I'll message them and say "Hey, are you so & so's daughter? I think I went to school with your mom."

I don't really get it either. Perhaps if lots of people I knew were on it, I'd use it more.

I got a cupcake from Gina Miller earlier today ROFL!

Honestly though, there are a few people who have "found" me that I wish hadn't. But for the most part, there were a lot of people I wish I had kept in contact with, so this is really cool. I had it for awhile, but it was only the past week that I actually did anything on it. I can't get into MySpace at all LOL

There is one thing that worries me abut facebook. And that is the terms.
Have you actually read them?

I don't post any photos on it because of that.

But these days I'm bying and selling my friends...
I think it's a fun thing to do 15 minutes a day. Maybe I bought Gina Miller earlier this day. Maybe I'll buy you tomorrow Sonja...

I think facebook is a fun place, nothing more.
