Default Circuit City - Bummer!

I loved Circuit City - what a bummer that they're having to close.

The store near us has been gone for a LONG time...I think I only shopped there a few times, though. Their prices were usually higher than online...maybe I contributed to their demise. LOL

Funny, I just got off the phone with my hubby and was telling him how bummed I am that CC is closing. I loved that store. I know most people love Best Buy but I liked CC better, I think it was because the employees actually KNEW what they were talking about (at our location anyway, I don't know how all the others are).

We don't have CC up here, but we have "The Source" by CC, and those stores SUCK, lol. Well at least the local ones. We always hit Future Shop or Best Buy instead because they actually care to try to sell you something.

I never heard of Future Shop but it's so opposite here as far as Best Buy goes!

I've never been a Circuit City fan. I feel for their employees though. We stick with Best Buy for most of our electronics. I WISH we had a Fry's up here!

We went to CC this morning...DH bought a radio for his car, and we got a very good deal on Madagascar The Movie (Christmas box set with Beanie Baby penguin)...$4!!!

my hubby is a manager at best buy so i'm partial, but i am seriously so sad. it just marks more corrosion in our economy and i'm not okay with that.

although, most of it was poor executive decisions.

My stepfather works at CC distribution center. They just got told yesterday that they have about 60 days of work left. I feel bad for him because he is older and has harder times finding jobs. But we hardly ever shopped at our CC here.

I do feel bad for the employees, but I had a bad experience at the store in our area a couple of years ago and refused to ever shop them again. I won't miss them......

We don't have one here, but it is sad to hear of so many employees losing jobs. My brother is a manager at Best Buy though.

I'm not a fan of CC, but I'm sad to see another large company go under. The lack of competition for the remaining stores scares me. I live in a pretty big city, over a million people, but we only have one true grocery store chain and its local (HEB) otherwise we have to go to Walmart (blech) or Target which is too expensive. If HEB chooses to raise their prices, we are pretty much screwed. It worries me we will end up with other stores in the same way. KWIM?

There's information up at their website. Basically, if you bought the protection plan, you're good:

Quote:
Are Circuit City's extended warranties affected by the liquidation?

* No. Circuit City Advantage Protection Plans® (extended warranties) have been backed by third-party independent companies for more than 15 years and as a result, are not impacted by Circuit City's closing.
* Currently, all Circuit City Advantage Protection Plans are fully backed by the Assurant Solutions companies. Assurant Solutions operates as Federal Warranty Service Corporation, Sureway, Inc., and United Service Protection, Inc. Assurant Solutions is part of Assurant, Inc. (NYSE: AIZ), and its extended service contacts are backed by an Assurant insurance subsidiary rated A "Excellent" by A.M. Best Co.
If you didn't, you have to go to the manufacturer. Same as if CC weren't closing it's doors.

I'll miss CC, especially since that leaves us with only BB for non computer electronics purchases. I don't have any issue with BB other than the throngs of people that are always there.
