Default I must know...

when you say template, does it sound like "tem-plit" or "tem-play-t"? (my strength is obviously not phonetically typing words out) I've just noticed in some of the podcasts and stuff I've listened to that a lot seem to say "tem-plit" but I've always said it with a long A sound. (y'know, like plate)

These are the important questions, you know.

Yep. Same same. Although, we had this discussion at a crop a few weeks ago, and immediately following . . . I said tem"plate." It gets in your brain.

I had to sit here and repeat myself a few times out loud and I say it as "tem-plit". Now it definitely sounds weird to me after saying it over and over ...lol!

Ha! The Oxford dictionary has both pronunciations!

Pronunciation: /ˈtɛmpleɪt, -plɪt/

Ummm...I don't know if I've ever said the word out loud referring to scrapping templates. IRL who would I talk to about templates? So now I'm sitting here saying it out loud, too. Now none of them sound right! Either the long A or the "plut" sound. I'll have to try again later to be sure.

I had no idea people said templAYte.

I'm sort of templEHt maybe?

But I say harassment with the accent on the first syllable (har-uhs-muhnt), and advertisement (ad-vur-tis-muhnt) with the accent on the second syllable. And again typically with a long vowel in the second syllable (uh-geyn).

It varies for me but mostly the et sound... sometime the -uht sound and maybe I could swing the -it. But since I have a deep southern drawl I tend to say it the lazy way and it comes out templet. I don't have time to hang on to the long a sound ya'll. hahaha
