Shoes on or off?
Do you leave your shoes on when you come inside?
Ever since we moved we have been leaving them on. We have all hard wood floors and lino with no rugs. The boys are in and out all day long from playing in the yard. I come in and out from the back with the laundry. There is no way I can keep the floors clean all day long. I already sweep and use the stick vac at least once a day and mop or faux swiffer once a day. With all that my floors are still dirty. I can't stand the feeling of stuff on my feet so I stay in my flip flops all day long. If we had an entry or mudroom I might enforce the no shoes but the last thing I want is a pile of shoes by the kitchen door. What is your shoe rule?

No shoes.
We have a big rug by our front door where we come in, and a shoe stand that we tuck them in. Shoes off the minute you come inside. If you're coming in from the back, shoes off once you get inside and take them to the shoe stand. (or Dad's work shoes get tucked into the laundry closet. |

We don't wear shoes, either, but it's not really got anything to do with carpets or flooring. I just don't like to wear shoes if I don't have to and my DD's the same way. My DH will wear them around the house sometimes, but if I'm home, I've got shoes off!!

I hate wearing shoes, so mine are off as much as possible, at home, in the car, at church...lol But, we don't have a rule. If you want to wear them, do, if you don't, don't!

I wear my croc sandals in the house, but mostly we take off our shoes in the house.

We don't wear shoes either but mostly because shoes make my feet feel heavy
When the boys are in and out all summer they keep their shoes on or they end up misplacing them but the rest of the year they tend to take them off |

Another shoe hater. Mine are off as soon as I get home (and if I'm coming home from work, my bra is often right behind it). I wear flip flops 8 months of the year, though, and they're littered all over my house... like little piles of dog poo or something. I seriously find them everywhere. You think I'd pay attention to where I take them off.

I grew up with shoes on... hubby grew up that you always take shoes off in the house. Since I hate wearing shoes (and socks)... I was a-okay changing my views to shoes off...

Shoes off. I am not a shoes wearer by nature so they are always the first thing off in the door. DH will wear them around but I can't stand my feet being confined.

I guess I am in the minority. LOL! I have to wear shoes because going bare foot hurts flares up my plantar fasciitis.

We don't have a specific rule (unlike my sister who is the shoe inside police) and I don't care if people wear their shoes in my house, that's why I have a mop/broom/vacuum. We live in the country, dirt is unavoidable, & it's everywhere, even places you wouldn't think it would live.
I really dislike shoes & socks, so usually I'm barefoot, the kids are usually barefoot too, they picked up my love for free toes. I'm a flip-flop fan on most days & I'm like you HATE feeling things on my feet, so I usually wear them around the house.

Never wear shoes inside. Our kids are well trained to take shoes off in the garage!

We don't have a rule but I don't like shoes so they come off right away... and the girls are the same. However, my friend has hardwood floors and I can't stand feeling things on my feet walking around so I usually keep my shoes on there--so I might if that was our case too.

Even with shoes on or off, if you put rugs outside and inside the door, it will help to keep the dirt from tracking into the house. A rough one outside and get the kids to make it a habit to wipe their feet on the rugs. You can shake the inside one out in the yard frequently too. We keep a bin by the door for the kids shoes. DH and I take our shoes off inside the house, not right inside the door..

We take them off in the living room. There is not enough space in our entry way for the four of us to stand there and take off our shoes (esp since someone is holding onto Lilly). So we get the kids onto the couch and take their shoes off. This does mean that the carpet by the entry way and in front of the couch gets dirty really fast but the rest of the house has a good chance at staying dirt free. I do try to vacuum the carpet there every couple of days.

Off! I loathe shoes. Honestly, if I could get away with being barefoot in public, I would. As it is, I wear my Birkenstocks as long into fall/winter as possible. I just loathe shoes that much.

Shoes off in the house and that goes for guests too! Now that I have carpets I love it more. Hardwood floors were impossible to keep tidy and my feet were getting too dry.

We don't have a rule..mainly because the first thing we do when we come in the house is kick off our shoes...definitely prefer being barefoot.

So, I'm obviously in the minority, but I hate being barefoot. My kids and DH prefer no shoes, but I normally wear flip flops in the summer and socks or slippers if it's cold.

ON! I'm a huge klutz-if I take my shoes off I'm constantly bumping my toes on furniture or stepping on toys. Everyone else in my house prefers shoes off, but I almost always wear them.

I HATE shoes and grew up practically barefoot...I usually even take my shoes off int he car if I am not driving...my kids inherited from me we moved into our new house last July and never really had a shoe rule {just no place to ever put them in our old house} and we have a rug by the front door and a bench that has 2 cubbies in it {1 for peyton and 1 for Abby}...the rug has the majority of our shoes that we all wera the most {which is alot of shoes for 6 people} and the rest are in bedroom closets....funny thing is Abby has more shoes than anybody downstairs...but we all take our shoes off when we come in, except for Matt, he just normally doesn't take his off....

I would love to enforce the "no shoes inside" rule, as I have very small children that spend a lot of time playing on the floor - BUT, we have 100% tile in our house and sometimes it is just too cool on my feet. So, I may not be wearing my shoes all the time, I am ALWAYS wearing something on my feet (most often, my 5finger shoes. Love them!)

I loved having a no shoes rule in our house, but with our hard wood floors (and even with a few rugs here and there) my feet just ache at the end of the day if I go barefoot. So then we tried having house shoes that we only wore inside, but I always accidentally wear them outside. I should probably get the floors figured out before this baby starts rolling over...it's one of my biggest issues with our house. We have a sunporch that we use as a mudroom, even though it doesn't have a lock. Luckily no one has stolen our shoes yet.

Practically kicking them off as I'm walking in the door. But it isn't a hard and fast rule. If you come to visit, you may wear your shoes or kick them off -- but mine will most likely be off.
For those who like to wear shoes but used to have a no shoe policy, my mother takes off her outdoor shoes when she gets home and she has a pair of crocs that she wears just inside.

I am never without shoes...unless I'm in the shower or in the bed. I constantly wear flipflops. I also can't stand the feeling of "stuff" on the bottom of my feet!!! However...I don't let anyone else were shoes in the house...their shoes are left in the mudroom!!!

Oh and it's not because of the dirt...I have 5 kids...stuff gets dirty no matter what it's because they are always stepping on my feet/toes and it drives me nuts!!! Gah!!!!

We're a bit of a mix. We have sandals by the back door for when we take Tiger out, but we usually wear our shoes into the bedroom and take them off there when we get home. Once we're home, Jordan's usually barefoot. I usually wear slippers or flip flops. I HATE the feeling of crumbs on my barefeet.

No shoes in my house. I hate trying to keep the floors clean with all the mud and dirt being brought in. We get so much rain, and my floors would be so disgusting if we wore shoes in here. I sweep the floors often, so walking around barefoot is fine.

I hate wearing shoes too, so I always have them off. And, I try to keep my kids from wearing them around the house. We do have a nice mud room bench where we can kick of our shoes. When we lived in Arizona, I had problems with my feet hurting because of our concrete sub-flooring, so I had a pair of cushy sandals that I only wore in the house. But, as soon as we were back in Utah with a basement and wood sub-flooring, I've gone back to no shoes. In the winter, I do usually wear some little footie socks or something so that my toesies don't get cold.

We don't have any rules about it, but I always take my shoes off when I get home (followed by everything else - and change into my comfy clothes). But for some strange reason, I won't answer my door barefoot. I'm not sure why but I always have to have something on my feet before I'll open the door - even if it's just my Crocs flip flops.

Shoes off and I'd freak if someone left them on in my house lol That's the general consensus around here though, I've never been to anyone's house and left my shoes on, and I don't know anyone IRL that does that (Although I really did think it was a 'Canadian' thing to take your shoes off until reading this thread - apparently I was wrong!)

I'm the same way - can't stand the way stuff feels on my feet. I'm in sneakers from the moment I get up until I go to bed at night. I have flat feet and have been having some pain in my left foot so going barefoot just kills me lately. I'm also on my feet all.day.long (if I sit down, I have one or two kids climbing on me) so I need the support.
As for everyone else? I don't care. Our carpet is in desperate need of a good steaming. We're hoping to replace it with hardwoods throughout the house in a few years so I'm not concerned about keeping shoes off of it to keep it clean.

Shoes aren't the problem in our house...I probably should have a no pants rule The amount of sand that comes inside the house in jean pockets, hair, jacket pockets is insane. So I wear socks or thongs (like you Amanda) because I can' stand the feeling of sand all over my feet. I love the timber floors but having them constantly dirty even with the continual vaccuming sucks (ha...vaccum joke!!!). I would love to get rid of the sandpit but it would break the boys hearts so guess I'm stuck with sandy floors and wearing socks or thongs
