Default Band Hero or Rock Band?

Santa wants to get the family one of these for Christmas. I don't know which is better or what would be easier for us to use.

My boys mainly listen to kids music (someone needs to make a game with kids only music!), a few pop songs and country songs.

Oh we have a Wii.

eta: are the guitar hero or rockband wii games interchangeable with both band hero and rock band? could I buy a rock band wii game and use it with the band hero hardware?

Pros or cons for either would be appreciated!

Band Hero is more family-friendly but more limited as far as songs go. Some of the songs and people in Rock Band are a little skanky for small kids, IMO. We have Band Hero and like it a lot. (ours is for Wii and the instruments are easy to play)

We have Band Hero for Xbox, and the two don't mix :/ But I love ours. My 3 and 5 year old play along!

DANG AMANDA!! I just posted like two weeks ago that Band Hero was on sale for $59!!! ($100 off!!). bummer.

but lucky for you, we have both now...

Rock Band lets you do "no fail" mode, which is cool for keeping the song going even when the musicians suck But Band Hero has a "beginner" mode of play and makes it MUCH easier for the kids to play. I find that as long as I play one instrument, I can keep the game going for my two kids (only 5 and 3!!).

Regarding the songs, I saw a comment that the songs are better on Rock Band. I actually think it depends on when you buy the game. We LOVE the new songs on Band Hero - think they are way better than what we had on Rock Band. Rock Band had a lot of "has been" kind of music, where Band Hero has lots of current songs (Maroon 5, Taylor Swift, etc). My hubby went on-line and bought more music, so we have a TON of songs that the kids love!

the drums are quieter on Band Hero - I totally agree with Meg on that one! Rock Band rums are loud and "clicky" sounding.

lastly- re: instruments - There are 5 pads to the drums on Band Hero, but only 4 for Rock Band, so the drums aren't interchangeable both ways. However, the guitars are! We use our Rock Band guitars with Band Hero with no issues!!

so in summary...BAND HERO!!

(oh, and we have a PS3)

I bought the Band Hero for PS3 deal when it was $59 a couple of weeks ago and have it put away for Christmas for Rob and the kids. The girls love playing it and Guitar Hero at my BIL and SIL's house so I know they'll be excited to play here at home now too!

Thanks girls! I am sad I missed that deal!

I didn't know you could buy songs online. That is a plus for sure!
