Default Anyone have a UPS? backup not the brown truck :p

We live in an old house and the wiring is crap. It has been checked and is totally safe but just not current. It is finicky and if something that pulls a lot is running (microwave mainly) it can cause the power to fluctuate. So until we get it rewired I need something to help provide uninterrupted power to my mac. Plus having the extra time to correctly shut down during an outage is a bonus.

I have been looking all morning long and my brain hurts. I know I need one that is PFC compatible (something to do with mac power?) but beyond that I am clueless.

Any recommendations?

I wish I could help. We have several at home that our office was no longer using (another perk of being married to the IT guy), but I know nothing about them. :/

I do. My power would fluxuate enough that about once a week my computer would pop off. I have this UPS by APC. APC has great products and the only reason I have this one is they ran a deal with it 50% off. I bet the other lower cost ones are fine too. I bought it when I had a PC, but I have my Mac hooked up to it now and haven't noticed any problems. Tell me about the PFC thing?? I don't know what that is or if this UPC is compatible.

edited to add-- looks like Office Max has 20% off with code SUMMERSAVE

It is Power Factor Correction. https://discussions.apple.com/thread...art=0&tstart=0

I think I am going with this one

http://www.amazon.com/CyberPower-CP8...901077&sr=8-25

but am also looking at this one

http://www.amazon.com/APC-Back-UPS-W.../ref=de_a_smtd

I want one with at least 400W since my imac pulls 310W. Gah! It is all confusing to me.

We have this one, too! We got it because we have a NAS (network area storage device), and after our power went out twice in the spring due to storms, we had a really hard time getting it re-booted properly. So we got it purely to keep the NAS from dying a hard death, LOL!

And wouldn't you know it - the power hasn't gone out since, LOL!

I would stick with APC, we have two. I like the kind that stands up so dust doesn't settle into the outlets, or I guess you can cover them too LOL!

I know that ours are APC's, if that helps at all.

we've got two OPTI's, and before this had APC's. I'm not sure which one I will order for my new one, as mine is dying after four years, lol. I can't imagine living without one!
