Default Netflix - TV on DVD - what do you recommend?

...oh my goodness...I am having such fun! My friend told me about how well Netflix has worked for her so I had to try it...it's going to save me a lot of money on the TV on DVDs because I had been buying them. Now I can try them and if I really really like them and will watch them repeatedly (like M*A*S*H) then it will be worth it to buy them. I hadn't realized Netflix would have these TV on DVD seasons...and such a variety!

My queue is becoming quite long...however there are so many TV shows I didn't even know existed or do not know what they are about (it does give you a summary)...but what are your favorites?

Mine are:

M*A*S*H (my number 1 TV show)
Hogan's Heroes (although I did get tired of it)
Home Improvement
EUReKA (just bought recently)
SOAP (just finished watching the first season on Netflix)

What are your favorites...maybe that I might like to watch but hadn't tried?

I don't care for blood, guts, gore...not too hot on medical shows (although I am going to see what Doogie Howser MD was all about)...

I used to love watching:
Night Court (remember Judge Harry?)
Gilligan's Island
Candid Camera
Moonlighting
Dallas

I like to laugh....what do you suggest?

Big Bang Theory is one my favorite current shows... I can't wait for Drop Dead Diva to come out on DVD... it's still in first season right now. Another one that I've become fan of is Mad Men... I think Nikki is the one that got me hooked on that show... not a comedy, but entertaining...

I'd have to think... I'm just not clicking with other sitcoms that I used to/am watching... Scrubs, The Office, 30 Rock, 10 simple rules, Yes Dear, Just Shoot me, King of Queens...

we watch a lot of tv on dvd - but probably not anything you would like - LOL - lots of blood/guts/action/etc ... but - our favorites are:

- the wire (just about to finish this up - i really loved it! very 'real' police drama - so if you mind profanity, drugs, blood, etc definitely not for you! LOL)
- dexter
- 24 (dh still likes this although i'm way over it LOL)
- alias
- lost
- bones
- house
- i just got friday night lights but haven't started it yet ...

My two all-time favorite comedies are Everybody Loves Raymond and FRIENDS.

LOST is the best show on tv ever and 24 is a close second

I recommended both LOST and 24 to my parents right after they got netflix and for about a month solid, all they were ever doing when I called was watching one of them lol.

If you like Brit TV & humor, you'll like The IT Crowd (IT as in information technology) It is SOO funny! I wish they'd show the current season on a channel we get!

I like Mad Men, The Wire, Sopranos, Six Feet Under (a lot of dead people, but not gory from what I remember), Army Wives, Dexter (maybe not so good if you don't like blood), Buffy, and there's a really funny UK show called teachers from a few years back, don't know if they'll have it in the US.

I am a big fan of TV on DVD from Netflix, too, but I watch a totally different type of show from you. The last ones I have gotten are Oz, The 4400, Firefly and True Blood.

If you like to laugh, maybe The Office or Flight of the Concords?

ETA: and I LOVED Arrested Development.

I just finished the Tudors and Mad Men (which really didn't hold my interest). I have Babylon 5 and Buffy up next. Firefly is excellent, but we own it already. I went through a bunch of 80's Britcoms - Black Adder, the Young Ones and my fave Red Dwarf.

I could have typed up Dana's whole list...

But also the HBO shows, like Deadwood and Rome. I started Sopranos about 3 seasons after it debuted and loved it (I may have been the only one not to see it in the beginning) Love netflix- miss it...

I remember Wings! We used to watch that show pretty regularly.

I've wondered about Reba...I only caught it twice I think so didn't get a good feel for it.

Two and a Half Men I have caught a few times...I'll have to rent that one...I think I would enjoy it.

Will and Grace...yep used to watch that a lot too! You've got quite a few that I haven't watched before and a few I hadn't heard of (i.e. Las Vegas and Tudors)

I love getting TV shows on DVD from Netflix!

I really enjoyed watching Heroes on instant watch, and we've gotten a bunch through the mail. We've watched Dawson's Creek, The Gilmore Girls, Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice, Desperate Housewives. I highly recommend Boston Legal, it's way awesome! I'm watching Gossip Girl right now.

at the moment we have Jetsons: The Movie ... at robotics we were talking about alternative energy in the future....and we started talking about the Jetsons...no one could remember if the Jetsons ever fueled their vehicle or what it ran on...so we're watching the movie...and tomorrow season 1 1st disk should arrive. lol

I'm in the middle of SOAP ... waiting for next disk to arrive...

...in the meantime I am watching Gilmore Girls...but I bought that...

LOVING that we can get TV on DVD through Netflix! It's saving us a ton of money now!

Kids are watching Sonic the Hedgehog first season.

Nikki is wrong; do not listen to her.

Arrested Development is the best show ever on TV. Witty and clever and totally fabulous...as long as you have a good sense of humor and don't get easily offended.

My second recommendation is Grounded for Life; Joel and i watched this after we first got married, and it always made us laugh.

Samantha Who is one I really like!

Right now we are watching 24 but some of the scenes can get bloody. It's one of my favorites. I just close my eyes when that comes on.

I'm waiting for the next season of Lost. You can put stuff in your queue that hasn't released yet.

oh, and Heros! I think you can instant that one though.

And DH and I love watching The Office on instant Netflix.

Oh I didn't know you could do that...put stuff in queue that hasn't released yet! I did get Wizard of Oz really quick...but I don't think I put it in before it released. How do you find the ones that haven't released yet? Was just looking but can't find that...

I've got "Lost in Space" Season 1 Disk 1 as our next series ... kids say "nahhhhhhhh" and I tell them to at least try the first disk. I think they might just like it.

Sharon - Quantum Leap is excellent - perfect family viewing with episodes that are silly and funny and some that are serious and though provoking. It's one on our list to begin showing the boys soon.

Lost and 24 are the best shows ever. I also love Gilmore Girls. And if you like Sci-Fi Stargate SG1 and Stargate Atlantis are awesome too.
