Default Kindle vs Nook,,,,

ok so it isn't really a question of one vs the other, but I just bought us a Nook 9in 32 gb and I am wondering for folkd that have switched from Kindles to Nooks can you access your Kindle library? Since I bought the books and I have Amazon Prime, I should be able to just log in to my Amazon account from the WiFi and save those books to the Nook right? What about movies that I have bought on Amazon? I would think I would be able to download them on the Nook since we can download on the TV as long as we log in to our account just curious if anyone has switched.....I have the original kindle from 2 years ago.....

Yep! They arent very fond of you trading sides. You cant get the nook app on your kindle either. The only one that lets you read anything is the ipad as you can download the nook, kindle and ibooks apps which let you shop from all of the ereader stores.

Yeah, I just told Cindy in her thread that the original kindle is notorious for not charging. It's terrible!

Ang - Can you download the Kindle reader ap? I'm pretty sure you can. That's what we did on Hannah's Nook. Now she can read both. Just go the Google Play store and see if that is an option. If not then PM me.

Ooooh! Juli might be right! If the Nook has google play, you should definitely be able to download the Kindle app. Here's a link...

Calibre won't switch them so they can be read on your Nook?

I haven't even opened the nook yet lol, so we haven't tried to play with it, but pretty sure it has google play on it Have a feeling I will have to buy another one and yes Robin that is where I read the trouble about the orginal Kindles and their troubles charging......we have an original Kindle Fire (x2) and luckily Matt's still charges, so for now we are down to 1 unless I can wiggle around and get mine to charge

Blegh... they're terrible Angie. We actually had 2 of ours replaced under warranty and Amazon was great about swapping them out for us (Huge props to them for that!) but yeah, even the replacements stopped charging within 6-8 months.

Wow that's crazy! So is it the Kindle Fires that weren't charging? Have they fixed that problem with the newer model?

I still have the old Kindle Touch, and I looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooove it. One of these days I'll upgrade, but for now, it totally works.

Anyway, you might look into Calibre, but I don't think they'll switch Amazon books to another format cause they of the DRM protection... at least not easily.

Libby it is the original Kindle Fires and I don't think they are making them anymore, so I am not sure they ever fixed the problem.........

I sideloaded the Nook app onto the Kindle Fire for my mother in law. And the Kindle app onto the Nook for her as well. (Long story, she received both as Christmas presents!)

Calibre is great for converting, but unless it is DRM free, it can't convert them from one format to the other.

Movies, I don't know for sure, but I imagine that if you bought them through the store, than they also have DRM.

We had to have an original Kindle Fire swapped out because of the charging port, but it's going strong 11 months later! And 1 of the 3 isn't bad (although one is 2nd gen). Unlike the ipods I had where I managed to kill 4. Yes, 4! LOL.

I have the Kindle app (from GooglePlay, no side-loading required) on my Nook. I checkout a lot of library books and I always look for the Kindle version and read them in the Kindle App on my Nook.

It used to be taht you couldn't download the Kindle app on Nooks, but last spring the newer Nooks had Google Play added to them and now you can download and use the Kindle store. You should be able to download the Amazon player as well to watch movies.

It's not going to be as easy from the Kindle, but it is doiable.
