P and PT request....
A few weeks ago I mentioned in a thread of Laura's that my oldest was having stomach problems. He's a sophomore in college and lives in the dorm, but is only about 20 minutes away.
At Christmas he told me his stomach was hurting all the time and he had lost 10-15 pounds. Since then the dr. has done some tests, but everything is coming up negative. Tomorrow he goes in for an endoscopy and a colonoscopy. I'm so sad he has to go through this at such a young age (19). Please send any positive thoughts and prayers our way that he gets through the procedures safely and they find the answer to his problems. And that it's not too serious and can be cured. TIA. |

sending prayer and positive thoughts. My husband had both done a little over a week ago now. They took two biopsies on his and we go in next week I think for the results. The tests are pretty easy it is the waiting afterwards that suck. Hope your son's goes smoothly and they have some answers (hopefully quickly rather then the wait like we have)

Thanks everyone. And now I'm on my way to Urgent Care with son #2 because we can't get his asthma under control. A few more prayers thrown in for him too would be appreciated.

Hope your younger son is ok tonight. Asthma is so scary when it not being controlled. Had a couple family members struggle with it so I have seen it firsthand. Hope you can update about your oldest son's procedures and if they find out anything as well.

Thanks again everyone. We got Wyatt's asthma under control, but he'll be staying home from school today. The boy just does too much - has track practice everyday and then this week he was in a class play and went straight to that every night. He was actually having breathing problems on stage last night. At least I feel better that he was seen by a doctor and we got him on some medication.
I'll update you on Grant when we get back. |

We are back and all went well. Nothing alarming was found - thank the Lord! Now we just will wait (like Jessica) for the results of the biopsies. There is still a chance it could be the infection that was already ruled out, because the biopsy is more precise. That has an easy fix of a long round of antibiotics so I keep hoping it's that.
Now I have 2 boys home both wearing hospital bracelets - hmmm...maybe I should scrap that. Thank you for all your prayers and thoughts - I always figure the more, the better. |

Sending both to your whole family. For what it is worth, I had a similar issue back when I was in college. They couldn't figure it out for weeks. Eventually they discovered it was gallstones, and after my gallbladder was removed, I was back to normal. I hope they're able to figure it out soon!
As a positive...it helped me lose that pesky freshman fifteen. ;-) |

We got the result's of Grant's scopes he had done last Friday:
Endoscopy: No worrisome findings Colonoscopy: No worrisome findings So, my immediate reaction is YAY! and Phew!, but then I'm like, what now? He's not cured. We meet with the doctor again in 2 weeks and I expect he will have some treatment advice for Grant. Most likely he will have to watch closer what he eats and what bothers him the most. And I assume he'll be put on some strong antacids or something too. Anyway...I appreciate all your p and pt and we just have to hope that at some point his problem goes away. |

My DH went through something similar in his early 20s and it turned out to be almost entirely caused by a very stressful work environment. He went through the same battery of tests (colonoscopy, endoscopy, barium xay, etc.) and they never really found anything. A few months later, he changed jobs and he has been fine ever since!

Mary I'm by no means an expert, but it sounds an awful lot like a friend in school who had Chron's Disease. Do you know if they've checked for that?

I keep wondering if it is stress. But he does great in school (always makes the Dean's list) and most of the time says his classes are pretty easy (even though he is in engineering). When he is home, he seems relaxed and happy. So yeah, I really do not know. However, if this does continue throughout the rest of this school year, I might insist on him living at home next year while going to school. Thanks again for all your support and prayers! |

I have IBS and have bouts of bad pain and other not so pleasant symptoms. Before this diagnosis I had been tested for parasitic infections (was even treated for giardia), colonoscopy/endoscopy, and barium swallow, etc. After everything came back clean I was told by my Doc that it is IBS and am lactose intolerant. Did they test for celiac disease (normally done during colonoscopy)? Good luck to him and to you...I know you must be so worried! Prayers coming your way!

Yes, he was tested for celiac - both a blood test and a biopsy - both came back negative. He doesn't have any colon/bowel issues, it's just his stomach, but I was happy they ruled out those diseases anyway.
He's coming home today because he said he had a stressful week, so I want to find out if his stomach was worse because he was stressed. We need Dr. House! |

My son is heading off to college next year, so this really hits close to home. I hope they can find out what is wrong with your son and that you can keep your other son's asthma under control. Very scary, but God is in control!

You do need Dr. House I hope you all have a great visit and that this gets sorted out soon! Stress can make the body do strange things...lets hope that is all it is. My husband went to VT and majored in chemistry...kinda high stress. To manage his stress level he got into breathing exercises and stuff that really helped him. Now he never stresses but he married this Type A chick...that stresses enough for the both of us! |
