LOL I surprised my kids with a DsiXL...

and I'd say it was a BIG hit! I feel a layout coming on! They'd been wishing for one, saving up $ and even found toys in their closets that they "could sell" to make $ to add to the DS fund.

Anyone have game suggestions? Jaxon is 6 and reads well above grade level, but Marley is 4 and doesn't read yet. I'm letting them both pick out games for themselves, but one they might both enjoy would be great too!

Just had to share- look at those faces!

Love their faces! How exciting. My daughter has the DS original and has a million games. As for games, Mario Kart, Puppy Palace, Pokemon, and Spongebob are a few of the favorites in my house.

Just bought my DD (5yr old) the DS Lite last week and she loves the Littlest Petshop Jungle game I bought her. It has 16 mini games, which you have to reach certain levels in each to unlock others... each game also has 3 difficulty levels... and you collect pets and other items...I like it- I feel like I'm getting my money's worth out of that game.

I also bought her the Dora saves the snow princess game and she was done that one in 20 minutes. Wasn't happy with that one. It only had 3 mini games and the story was too quick and easy to finish.

Priceless!

Luke is 6 loves his Lego games- Batman, Indiana Jones, Star Wars... he also likes an aquarium game... not sure of the name, maybe just Aquarium?. ISpy games are a hit, too.

Thanks ladies- keep the recommendations coming! Jaxon LOVES the Lego games on his other consoles (he is spoiled) and I think he's completed them all, but in a different format, he may like trying again.

My 5 year old son has the DS and he LOOOOOVES Super Mario Bros. In fact he is obsessed with it. He also plays Mario Kart Wiii and Peggle. Peggle is a game my hubby and I played on our iPhone that he also played so he was excited when we found it for his DS.

That picture is priceless! We gave my oldest dd a DSi XL for her 8th birthday a week ago and she has used it a TON already (and so have I ). She had had her DSLite for 4 years so we passed it on to our youngest and got her a new one. She was thrilled too!

The most-played games at our house (8 y/o dd, 5 y/o dd, 2 y/o ds) are Super Mario Brothers, NintenDogs, and Animal Crossing. We have several other games too but those are the most popular and the ones they're always fighting over.

Our oldest two have had DSs for ages, we bought Benjamin a DSi for Christmas. They get used almost every day, especially if we're driving somewhere.

We love Super Mario Brothers, Mario Party, Kirby, Nintendogs, Mario Kart. Benjamin has lots of Pokemon games.

Nintendogs and Littlest Pet Shops are the cutest games (I even loved playing them!!) and of course MarioKart is frickin awesome!! I came very close to beatig that one. They have Micro Machines for DS which is pretty fun and my son has a Monster Trucks game which he liked alot when he was a tad younger (around 12ish) but its pretty simple to grasp the basics on as well.

Oh, oh, oh!!!! We looooooooove our DS's and I definitely use them when I need to get shopping done, in the doc's office, long trips, etc. They are awesome!

I would recommend:
1. Mario Kart (my son (6) and daughter (5) both LOOOOOOOVE Mario Kart)
2. Super Mario Bros (it's fantastic and they can play forever)
3. Lego Star Wars and Lego Indiana Jones (these can be a bit difficult, but if your son picks up on it quickly, he'll play it for hours; my son did great, our neighbor had problems). ETA: I just reead your second post about Jaxon loving Lego games on other consoles - he will LOVE these lego games, too I bet!

Have FUNNNNNN!

They look sooooooo happy!

That photo is awesome! lol. I don't have any suggestions, except NintenDogs...I know all of my nieces and nephews love those games. I'm definately keeping an eye on this thread though, we're thinking of getting our girls ds lites for their 5th bday and will need game ideas. *sigh* they're the only kids out of ALL their cousins(even the younger ones) who don't have their own ds. (I do have my own, and I lovelovelove it lol - but they're not allowed to play it, since they accidentally erased one of my game saves once grrrr.)

So my daughter got Smart Girl's Playhouse 2- and she loves it. Lots of minigames- so far she love the dress up, jewelry designer and hair designer. Such a girl. Jaxon has Mario and Luigi Bowser's Inside Story. they want to look for more games... we'll see....
